I had my surgery on 9/4/13 and went home 9/6/13, I am feeling great. I am on the puree stage and I ate eggs, tuna, grits mashed potato, chicken breast and green Beans so far. I found that skim milk gave me bubbles... I am doing good with fat free Lactaid milk with all my Protein Shakes. I was having a problem with Water until today. Water was causing gas but I added apple juice to it and it goes down fine. I cannot tell when I'm full, so I only eat about 2 spoons of food at a meal. The sensitive nose has went away. I am driving as of Monday 9/9/13. So guys whats the thing to look for to tell if I'm full, so that I do not under eat? (I do not want to learn from throwing up first) And when do you get on the thread mill?

I would follow your sugeon's instructions on how many ounces for what stage of recovery you are in.

I agree with BBdoodle - measure your food intake by volume. The stomach/pouch has stretch sensors (nerves) that signal the brain when you're "full". The surgery temporarily dulls the sensitivity of those sensors and you don't really "feel" full. It will pass in a few weeks and your pouch will be signaling up a storm. You're gonna love the new you!!

Thank you both. I was told to eat 4oz at a time 6 times a day. plus 64 oz of Fluid.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
