Going back to LIQUIDS?

Recommended Posts

I have a question...I had my surgery july 18,2013 and ive had no complications...the only issue ive had is Constipation. And that started my 3rd week after surgery when i could eat "soft food"..i got through that painfully. Then i was able to use the bathroom normally. Then just a few days ago i got constipated again and had to drink magnesium citrate which worked wonders lol. Made me feel a little better too lol. And now im on a " regular diet" but im so scared to eat...ive just been eating Soup. I did have a small piece of chicken (it was very soft) and after i ate it my stomach was killing me..its like i felt it going through my bowels and everything...it was hurting the whole time. Ive never had a problem eating either..so im wondering if i should just go bck to liquids for awhile??? i feel like every time i eat solid food i get constipated. ..and it hurts my stomach and lower stomach now..weird.

I had periods like that too, my surgeon told me to go back to very soft or liquid for a day or two then go back to the stage I was in. But a little at a time. Somethings hurt real bad and others don't. Example, tuna hurt real bad for me when I was in the soft stage so I did not eat it but revisited it like 8 months later and now I am fine with it. Just keep trying different things, can you take a natural laxative or stool softener? prunes ??

I believe so..is prune juice ok to drink i wonder...and stool softeners, i thought it wasnt good to take all the time. I heard you can use Miralax daily..i might try that once i start eating solid foods again.

8 oz of prune juice has 42 grams of carbs an 25 grams of sugar, that would make me dump til I hoped I'd die.

Lol..does it really? I haven't checked..maybe not so much of a good idea. I have yet to go through the "dumping" experience....and im not trying to.

Tuna is my kryptonite too. It's nice to know I'll eventually be able to eat it. It's a great Protein source and I've always liked it. :-)

I have used psyllium husk daily for years, in my Breakfast morning Protein shake. I am pre-op (surgery on Jan 16). I recently asked my nutritionist if I could still use psyllium and she said I could use 1/2 teaspoon -- less than I am used to but not that much less. I've been doing about a teaspoon. Psyllium is the main ingrecient in products like Metamucil with no chemicals, no sugar or sugar subs, it just softens whatever is in your colon -- no runny, not diarrhea, it gently softens. Only get organic. Most psyllium husk sold in this country is grown in India and they use pesticides even more aggressively than here and the non-organic psyllium husk is really loaded with toxic pesticides. At the rate of 1/2 teaspoon a day, it is also very inexpensive for smooth sailing.

Of course, I haven't tried it with my new roux-n-y tiny egg-size stomach and I will only use it if needed and then start with teeny tiny amounts. . . . I have a health issue, unrelated to the surgery, that mandates the need to keep my stools soft.

I am surprised more nuts don't recommend it. Another great way to soften stools is to add 1/2 teaspoon of ground flax seed to whatever you are eating. . with me, the day always begins with a Protein Shake and it will forever. . . except when I make savory breakfast muffins for Protein and other good stuff.

I bought powdered Calcium citrate and liquid Vitamin D so I add these to my shakes or protein muffins now, along with cinnamon, tumeric and ginger -- all good for my metabolism.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
