Any October surgeries out there...

Recommended Posts

That's one thing I don't like is the holidays coming up!

Usually I'm the chef for Thanksgiving and Christmas. This year I think I'll have the grocery store catering do the feast at least for Thanksgiving. Of course, I might change my mind as the date approaches. My favorite part of making meals is seeing my family and friends enjoy them.

I need to share my frustration today!!!

When I get my surgery, I am not only getting the bypass, but they are also going to remove my ovaries. So- trying to coordinate with the bariatric surgeon and the OBGYN surgeon.

My OBGYN surgeon just called me and said the ONLY day she is available in October is the 21st. I called my bariatric surgeon, and he refuses to schedule me until I have my next appointment on Sept 13th. Im freaking out- if we wait too long to get it scheduled, who knows when they can coordinate another day.

Im just irritated they wont just schedule it. :| GRrrrrrrr

Could they possibly hold that date for you? That's what my clinic did until all the pieces came together.

I might have a two-fer, too. Different organ - appendix for me. I had a CT scan for my kidneys (15 year history of stones) and the next day I had to see a surgeon about the enlarged appendix I apparently have. Since I don't have any pain or show any other symptoms, the general surgeon is recommending that my WL surgeon turn the camera around and look to see if my appendix should be removed.

Molly

Barring any complications you should be ok to cook dinner. I am hoping i will be able to. Secret for your Turkey, brine it overnight. and dont cook it til the timer pops out. Theres tons of recipes all over pinterest and various blogs with good alternatives to high fat/high sugar dishes. my persnal favorite is rutabega mashed potatoes. its very earthy and yummy with just a little butter or olive oil margarine. I have been eating that since i was a kid every thanksgiving. You can also use the fat free cream Soups for green bean casserole or make a new casserole with a new veggie. You arent going to be able to eat alot by then anyway :).

and how about Outrageous October?

also,

Is anyone else with a date already so excited to the point that you cant stop thinking about everything and talking about it to the point that people are getting sick of it?

I have a countdown calendar on my phone at work and at home.

Every week i am picking up new samples of things to try after.

I have all the "hardware" ready 1,2 and 4 oz plastic condiment cups with lids( like restaraunts use for take out dressings)

I have some cute bento box type lunch containers

toddler spoons and forks. shaker bottles. Water bottles and disposable child sippy cups for the beginning

I have been prepared since April.

I like OMG October too! Lol.

I am having a double surgery too, only they are taking out my gallbladder. I'm happy to get it out because its made me miserable for years - two for one deal is great for me!

I've bought a ton of hardware too :D. And my date isn't set in stone yet, but my insurance is pretty fast to Approve so I know it's gonna be early Oct.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
