I have lost about 30 pounds without a liquid diet. I did it by giving up red meat first, then all meat. I still eat fish, eggs, and dairy. Also stop drinking soda (if you do now) and cut out fruit juices.

All the best to you!

Hello my name is Terri and I have to loose 34pounds before I get my second appointment. Right now I am down about 28 but it fluctuates everyday. I started with drinking an Atkins shake for Breakfast. Then for lunch I eat some turkey breast lunch meat. I get the meat that is low fats. It's like 50 calories per serving which is like 8 slices. Then I eat either some cottage cheese or some string cheese and maybe a grapefruit or some grapes. I do the same for dinner or eat a can of Soup. I don't drink pop and I try not to eat any breads or pastas. It's really hard to change your eating habits. I have struggled with weight issues my whole life. Just cut back on fast food and fatty foods. My nutritionist said read labels and try to get things that are under 5grams of fat and has higher Protein. It's going to be hard but if you start with small steps you will get I to a routine. I still have a ways to go and these last few are my hardest. Good luck and maybe we can be our surgeries scheduled for the same day!

Also people on here are so supportive they will give you any advice that they can to help you out. I have learned a lot here and I have only been here about a month. :)

Why do they make you loose weight first??? Isn't that why we have the surgery? To loose the weight? I don't understand.

I totally agree. I think it's for two reasons.

1. They want you to lose some fat from around your liver. If it's too fatty it would be hard and difficult to move during the surgery, which can cause excessive bleeding.

2. They want to know that you are willing and able to make changes now. My nut always says that they are not operating on your brain, most of the work is done up there.

They want you to incorporate what should be your new habits prior to surgery to show your committed after the surgery....if you don't change your habits before than your more likely to end up back in the same place after surgery when it's all said and done cause you can stretch out your pouch .....I have up soda a month before my surgery so that I was prepared for after ... It was hard , I felt like I was in a 12 step program ... But it was good because now I can't stand it....it's hard as hell and not easy but we got ourselves into this situation because of our habits ...we are all here for you ;)

The best suggestion I can give is to just stick with your commitments to lose the weight. If you happen to fall off the wagon with a not so good food choice, correct it at your next meal or snack. Its tough when your body is detoxing off sugar, caffeine, soda, etc. it takes a few days just to get all of that out of your system. What worked for me was a high Protein low carb diet. I had a shake for Breakfast, string cheese for snack, either a shake or lean cuisine for lunch, and chicken with Beans or broccoli for dinner. It's very important to get your Water in as well. You can always use My Fitness Pal which is an iPhone and android app to log your food. That way you see how many grams of Protein and carbs and calories you are getting. I know you can do it! :)

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
