My surgery is 8/7/13 and I started my pre-op diet yesterday. It's tough and I'm hungry but mostly I really want some diet coke. I know I can't have it after surgery but does anyone know if it's a problem in the pre-op diet? I do know we need to cut caffiene but my head is pounding from the headache. I'd prefer to allow myself just one glass a day so I can kind of wean off it. I haven't eaten anything I shouldn't, I just want a little diet coke. Yes, I know that is whiney but I can't help it lol.

diet is ten days and it's basically Clear Liquids and some celery. They say no to soda because of the many negative attributes but allow coffee. I dont drink coffee. I'm just freaking out a little I guess because my surgery is a week from wednesday, eek!

I want a Diet Coke so bad too! I gave it up totally a week ago. 3 weeks ago I cut it to one a day. By the next week one very other day. This past week NONE! I still want it but I want my surgery more! Good Luck because I know how hard it is to NOT drink it! You CAN do it!

Yes the diet pepsi or diet coke was so hard to give up. I have weaned myself off many times over the years, only to get back on it. But i hope i can stay off now.

The biggest problem with carbonated drinks is it expands your pouch.

Also i have broken my teeth a few times. I think maybe from the acidic diet soda, i drank at least a six pack a day. I better be done after surgery.

I have been off it now mostly for 5 months. When i drink it i get a hot flush and bad sweats, red face - sulfites allergy maybe.

lisalisalisa, I am just started this journey 7/9/13. I have to do a 6 month supervised diet plan. SO probably February 2014. I have met with my surgeon, had my physiological evaluation, and the NUT visit already. I meet with our medical director and exercise guru next week. I am rooting for you on your surgery! Keep us posted!

I was a diet pepsi addict before surgery, that was the ONLY thing I drank, no coffee, no tea...just DP. I would have 6-8 cans a day. After surgery I did crave it a bit but I got thru it. About 3-4 months post op I took a sip of DP and it tasted horrible... VERY chemically.... so the RNY changed my taste buds big time. Now I have no problem saying no to soda !!!! and glad for it too. I would check with your nutritionist or who ever gave you the diet to follow, see if you can have your DC. I drank my DP up until the night before surgery but I also did not have to do a pre-op diet either.

Good luck and you can do it !!!

OMG I can feel your pain.

I quit smoking years ago. I quit going out drinking too. But quiting diet soda is the hardest thing ever. I can go two weeks max and then I almost am itching for it.

Too bad it isn't as good without the bubbles. Cause if you could stir the bubbles out of a caffiene free diet soda you would have it made. But *GAG* that's a terrible idea.

Soda doesn't expand your pouch. We are told to stay away from it because of the unhealthy habits it can start back up, such as fast food. I drink soda sometimes but it doesn't taste the same. Kinda like you can taste all the chemicals now.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
