Yes' date=' shershrinking. I look affirm as a small bump in the road onto my route of happiness! Where are u having your surgery at? And how are you doing with diet and exercise as u wait for surgery? I was doing really good up until last week...I gotta get back into walking again[/quote']

I am in north bay area san francisco- santa rosa, wine country. I am having the surgery at the hospital i work in, the insurance and hospital cover my stay, they encourage this. One of my friends, a coworker had the sleeve last year, she looks so good- thats what made me get serious- i want to be thin too. - and its possible. But doc & rn encourage RNY because of my diabetes. I have been slacking pretty bad on the diet. Exercise = walking/shopping. Struggling with my sugars.

Yeah, I started the journey thinking rny, but didn't want the rerouting. Then I decided lap band, but surgeon doesn't recommend it anymore. He recommended rny for my diabetes too. I then went back to him and tried to talk him into the sleeve and he said that my diabetes might not go away and the gerd I have now will only get worse with the sleeve. So here I am back to rny! I am happy that it is the gold standard and I will have to go through with this once, but not really the route I wanted! Anyways, we will be diabetes soon enough!...let's keep in touch

I think it depends on your insurance and what they require before you can have the surgery. I started the process in February and had to have 6 mos of supervised diet. That was up in July. I was hoping to get surgery date in August, but my surgeon is on vacation through second week into August, then he is booked. I am on the bump list though if someone should cancel. I really wanted it in August as my surgery date is the same date my kindergartener goes off to a new school. I'm already a bit emotional about that now and I know it will get worse as time goes on. My husband thinks I'm crazy to be so upset about it this and that I should just be happy I'm starting a new phase in life and I should be happy about that. He just don't get the bond that a mom has with her child is and being the last one to go off to a big school doesn't help!

Anyways, I hope u get a surgery date soon. Good luck!

I know what you mean about struggle. I wa doing so good up to a few weeks ago then I stopped walking and starting eating crap again. I need to get the control back because I don't want to go back in and have gained! The head hunger is big, I think I'm starting to fear not having food as my comfort therefore I am trying to eat everything--- not good!

I had the same issue. My surgery was going to be in august but my surgeon is on vacation. So I gained 6 pounds in literally two days from the crap I ate...pizza, candy, soda, etc. I started my pre op diet on the first. Did could until yesterday...went to my parents house and they had little box pizzas and made me one. I said I didn't want it but ended up eating it waa.

Yeah, add in the factor of people trying to feed you when you can't is going to make it harder for us. We just need to think of those personal victories and not let that pizza take it us over!

Why is that everyone one now is trying to sabotage me? I swear people keep telling me I should eat everything I want now because after my surgery I won't be able to, but I'm trying to be good and loose some weight but its hard. I could kill my husband the other day, went and got Frosty shakes, my weakness.... I think I wanted to murder him, with every sip!

I think they do it without realizing what their doing

Last night we got into an argument because he wanted soft ice cream and the kids too so I told him that they could and I will just have one of my sugar free pop sickles. He went and brought back to me a cup of ice cream , I told him why he did that, that he wasn't helping me, and he got mad and trew his away and mine in the garbage I said why would he wasted that money he could it just freeze it for the kids that he was being a brat because he could of avoid all that if he just would listen to me. And we stop talking for couple of hours. It's frustrating having to keep remind him that I want to loose weight, he has to loose weight to but apparently he doesn't want to. I invited him on a short walk and I beg him and he just yelled and said he didn't want to and went upstairs. What's the deal?

Cici,

It honestly sounds like he may not be as ready as you are to make the changes that must be made. Don't pressure him, just keep being the change you want to see in him. Lead by example, but don't hold it over his head that you are doing well and he isn't. If he doesn't make the changes before long though, he will need to reevaluate whether or not he seriously wants surgery.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
