Hiya, I'm Kristi. I had bypass on 6/26/13. I am a computer teacher in a very small school district. I teach grades pre-k through 12th grade. I'm also an Educational Technology Specialist.

I have run into several other teachers on the June board alone, so I thought it would be neat to see if we could get a group of educators on here to share secrets to successful eating habits in school. I know we are always rushed for time to eat and use the restroom!

How many of y'all are having to deal with Common Core?

Hooray!! I finally got in! On my phone I could not figure out how to join the group so I went to the computer. After much playing around I found the page then linked to another page that had all the details of this group and finally when I was about to give up in frustration I saw the button at the top that said join this group. Yay!

Anyway my name is Sonia and I teach full day kindergarten in Toronto, Ontario. I love the idea of this group so we can share ideas on how to get through the school day successfully. I really hope other people join up.

I had my surgery on July 10 so just 9 days post op right now. Doing quite well, no pain to talk of just discomfort. I am getting in my Protein and Water and drinking enough too. Also walking 2 miles a day right now, want to increase it but it is too bloody hot. I am wondering how to keep in the daily walks when I return to the classroom in September. I have a tendency to do all things school, family, home, first and run out of time for "me" stuff!

Sonia,

You sound like me… once school starts it's all about school and family… not even so much home… I'm horrible at keeping things clean! I've been walking about 3 miles a day. But I do it when I wake up so I leave my house by 7… Slept in this morning so not sure when I'll get my walk in today cuz it's going to be a scorcher!

Hi! My name is Hillary and I teach senior English and yearbook. I also had surgery on June 26, 2013. I have had a really good recovery so far. It is hard on a daily basis to try and get in enough Protein and fluids. I don't know how I will manage when school starts. It's not like I can stop to eat in the middle of teaching. We will all have to figure it out together.

As for exercise I too have given up walking outside. It is so hot! Try walking in the mall or I bought a workout DVD by Leslie Sansone which is essentially walking two miles in your living room. I also have the Jillian Michaels power sculpt DVD which includes cardio and weight training. Both are pretty good!

I have the DVDs by Leslie Sansone! I need to replace my dvd player though. I also have many other exercise DVDs that I have not put into good use… I've done hip hop abs once… lol One issue I have is when they have us jumping… there is too much of me to jump up and down. I don't like the bounce effect… maybe I need a binder of some sort….

Hi, ya'll! I had gastric bypass 22 years ago. I lost 100 lbs. I've had pretty good success over these years. My biggest challenge was when I got pregnant with twins 15 years ago. They took a toll on my Vitamin depleted body and absorbed most of my nutrients when I ate. Once the twins were born, I went into congestive heart failure and was not expected to live through the night. Apparently, God wasn't finished with me yet. I recovered. Now my biggest issue is that I have severe osteoporosis from malabsorption and I'm only 48. I don't regret the surgery by any means. I just wish I had followed the "rules" to a tee to ensure my continuous health. So if you are new to this surgery, take care of yourself.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
