No. I can't have it for one year. My doctor says there is a significant risk of liver failure if we drink alcohol in the first year following rny.

Talk to your doc, from what I've gathered every doctor will varies! I know I plan to I just need to discuss that with my surgeon. I'm a social girl who enjoys going out for a few drinks every now and again.

I started drinking four weeks out. Just a little and slowly increased from there.

My doc said wait at least three months. Went to a conference for work about two weeks ago, had some wine and also cocktails. Found out that after 1 drink I was "impaired" but after 2 I was the life of the party! Needless to say I will not go out to drink without a designated driver from now on.

I'm so glad someone talks about drinking. Some people are good with never drinking again, and cahoots to them, but I'd like to eventually be able to have a drink or 2 :)

My doc says never again due to the empty calories, but I'm at the bar right now. Gotta wind down the week somehow. ..

My surgeon says no alcohol for one year post surgery. I will follow his instructions.i also know that one of the major complication of this surgery is addiction. Many people who have this surgery are food addicts and when they don't have food anymore, they replace it with something else....like alcohol. Be smart, follow your doctors recommendations.

I drink a lot less post op than I did pre op. Like a third less at least. I'm not worried about cross addiction.

I haven't drank yet. I have found that I'm a food addict because I've been going through some ry tough emotional withdraws. I'm scared about transferring my addition so I'm not taking any chances. I have several friends that have had RNY that have drinks with no issues. Their advise was just start slow.

I agree, start slow :) I was never a big drinker anyway.. Nor was I a big eater. No emotional eating here... I can't eat when I'm upset. No appetite what so ever.

Is anyone drinking alcohol??

I have a drink whenever I want. No problems. I have a 1/2 cup of something once a week usually on the weekend.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
