Hi There' date='

Nice to see some Aussie voices on this site. I am due to have my band removed on 10 July for revision to Rny scheduled for October. (The mandatory 3 month wait with my Dr).

I had around 4 yrs of success keeping weight off with the band and was down to around 85kg from original 145kg. Unfortunately I developed esophigal issues (too much vomiting I suspect) and ended up having all Fluid removed from my band.

Now I'm back to my pre band starting weight and feeling incredibly depressed about it - can't wait until Oct but very scared all at the same time.

Would love to hear from others especially anyone in syd - what doctor / clinics are u going to.[/quote']

Thanks for your reply long walk, u r right about the pounds to kg thing. Don't know how many times I've referred to my calc reading this site :)

Hope your return to work went ok and that your energy is starting to return - I read somewhere in the last day or so that 7 weeks po is the magic time things start to settle down after Rny. Look forward to hearing more of your progress :)

Hi again, Today is two weeks since my operation I've lost 6 KGS. I wish it was more but again still feeling no restriction but all in all feeling very good. I started eating very soft foods in chunky Soup tins, For example chicken vegetable and because the. Seats are soft vegetable and meets iTunes down to the consistency of puréed and makes it very tasty. So at the moment I'm feeling good and have no problems. I hope everybody else is the same.

Hi guys. How is everyone going? It has been almost a year since the last post so I don't even know if anyone will reply lol

I am Liz. I had sleeve surgery in August 2013. I actually stopped loosing weight at 3 weeks post op. I thought it was the normal 3 week stall but nope. Just stopped dead. Had a CT scan at 3 months post op that came back saying my stomach was normal sized. Would hate to think the size of it before sleeve surgery then lol.

Anyway, I was revised to bypass on 3rd March this year and going ok but extremely slow weight loss and my anti depressants have stopped working grr.

OK will wait to see if there is any replies

Hello everyone :-) I was super excited to see fellow aussies and NZ surgery compadres on here. My story is banding about 6 yrs and initially lost 40kgs (sw 120kg) now gained 20 back. Surgery went well but started having band issues after 6 months and was having to have the Fluid removed every three months then wait a month before having it refilled so have had enough of mucking around with it booked in for band removal and GBP on 7th October 14. Very nervous and excited all at the same time, worried about complications, Hair loss and surgery in general also HATE hospitals and staying in them. Not sure how everyone is going would love to hear and will keep u posted on my journey.

Hello everyone, so glad to finally find a forum that may suit me. My GP recommended a gastric sleeve, but when I saw the surgeon, he recommended the Omega Loop, or mini gastric bypass. I am finding it difficult to find much information or support about this procedure; fairly new in Australia I believe and the surgeon, though very experienced in sleeves, not so much in the Omega Loop.

Have to decide soon though, my health is not improving and weight is not shifting - never has. So any ideas or suggestions will be gratefully accepted.

BTW I live on the Gold Coast, Qld.

Hi thanks for you reply. I had felt restriction on the sleeve immediately, but there is nothing. One week out today. Lost 4kgs so that's a good step. I'm in Queensland Australia. Where are you? .

I am in Perth WA. It's hard to find Aussies out there that have had gastric bypass hey? I think that the whole revision thing kind of makes us paranoid..I felt like a bit of a failure after the band..so was also worried that the bypass wouldn't work...I had my op on the 13 th may...it took 8 hours for them to do because of all the adhesions..felt pretty crook afterwards...I've lost 10 kg..so pretty happy with that. After three weeks I'm the lightest I have been in about 5 years..

4 kgs in a week is awesome..I'm classified as a light weight at starting weight of 103kg.

How bout you.?? How did you find the op..how are you feeling.??

Like you I was so happy to find a forum that suited, it has been great reading about others people's journies (good and the bad) so I have some idea on what to expect. My surgery is booked for October this year and i am having the full GBP here in Brisbane :) very nervous as each day draws me closer to my surgery date.

Good luck with your surgery and I am interested in hearing how you go

Hi all, I'd be interested to hear any experiences with the Omega loop (mini gastric bypass)! Im from south australia.

I had a band in 2007, lots of reflux and developed terrible eating habits. Went from 118.5kgs to 83... Lots of deflations and inflations to try and manage the terrible reflux. Then got pregnant and deflated the band again....Back up to 102 by the baby's birth. Then had the band removed in dec 2012, after I found out it had slipped. Waited 6 month and revised to a sleeve in may 2013... and went from 107 to 93 within the first 2 months and since then.... well, nothing. Up and down on the same 2 kilos :( my surgeon said my stomach was so damaged by the band that he just couldn't make my sleeve small enough. I can eat normal sized meals... The only positive is that I don't have any reflux! Surgeon recently went to a convention in Vienna about the Omega loop and thinks I might be a good candidate... So I'm booked in for October. I feel like a failure that this will be my 4th surgery related to weight loss, but hopeful that this might be the one! :)

Any experiences would be greatly appreciated! :)

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
