Today is my 8th day post-op. I stuck to the clear/light liquids for 6 days. I met with my Doctor on Wednesday and he said I could start having yogurt and fuller Soups and I have stuck to that. I also bought fat free Jello pudding (only had one) Fat Free cool whip (only had about a table Soup full) I also bought hummus, and string chesse, (had a little of each) thinking I could eat them in a couple of days. Am I getting a too ahead of myself? Should I still be liquids only? or do you think I can have these things?? I've lost 15 pounds so far, I'm afraid if I eat these things I won't lose more weight. I know I can eat these things without any problem, but I guess my question is should I be eatting them?

Has anyone else have this situtation?

Dont worry about it from a weight point of view since eventually you have to go back to real food. If over time calories in are less than calories out you'll lose weight. Any minor stalls are not important.

Just keep to liquidy things for now, personally I wouldnt eat cheese, but I do remember dipping a spoon in the hummus a few times!

Just be careful, and as said - listen to your body. It's still "healing" and you want to give it the time it needs to do so correctly so you won't have problems further along the road.

i started on string cheese after my second week. i did two weeks of straight liquids and post surgery (dr's orders) and my 3rd week is when i switched to mushy foods. i got the light string cheese and it worked well as a snack. i got to a point where the thought of blended Soups made me want to vomit.

My first PB was on cheese, so it was a LONG time before I'd eat it again.

If you can have yogurt & such, then go after some things (IMO) with some nutritional value, not cool whip. Cool hip is like eating airy plastic. Get some Soups (Bear Creek makes very good ones), "cream of" soups with the chunks removed or blended. If you like hummus, just add tahini until it's a soupy consistency. If you're needing a change, try some refried Beans with your choice of sour cream/tobasco/red sauce/chili verde/ etc. mixed in, just watch out for the skins. All adds a LOT of flavor, while making it even more liquidy than the base mushy state.

I was given a list of foods I could have during the different stages. On my list for mushies is cheese. You are 8 days out so you still have a little ways to go. I was on full liquids for 2 weeks as soon as I came home, which included pudding, Jello, oatmeal and cream of wheat that is runny and tomatoe Soup and no cal or low cal drinks. But cheese is for the mushie stage as noted by my surgeon. Ask yours before you eat something or your nutritionist. I am in my 3rd week out and on mushies. Good luck.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
