Banded 2/15 at 3:00pm OUCH!

Recommended Posts

I am back home as of this morning. I must say that I did not expect all this pain. I thought of myself as someone with a high pain tolerance but this really is knocking me out. I had two children and let me tell you, labor and delivery was easier.

I feel like my whole torso is in a vise and I cannot move to change positions. I feel okay once I am sitting, standing or laying(worst position) but cannot transition. I am 30 years old and thought I would recover so easily after reading all the posts raving how sugery was a snap. Am I being a big baby or have other people felt this way? This is a pain rated at 4-5 when still and about 8-9 when trying to position myself on the pain scale of 1-10, 10 being the worst.

They have me on oxycontin which is a pretty good size pill to have to swallow and I feel like a have to sip so much Fluid just to get 2 to go down. So that is not comfortable either. Hopefully this gets better soon or I am going to think that something is wrong. I really hope not, I cannot deal with surgery again. Thanks for listening. Any comments or advice is appreciated.

I'm on day 3, and it does get better. Try holding a pillow on your stomach as you get up, it does help. You're not being a baby...it HURTS!

I, too, was lulled into a sense of this was going to be a piece of cake, when I heard about a woman vaccuuming her house the next day after surgery. I guess it's just different for everybody.

Lap-band surgery was my 15th operation, and it was by far the worst. It completely knocked me on my ass for a good 5 days. Hang in there. Each day gets better. By week 3, you'll be back to normal.

Hi atlast.

Nope, you're not being a baby at all. I found that to be the worst.. Pulling myself out of bed and it just pushed on my stomach. I use this armchair bed thingy right here and let me tell you. It helps me A LOT to get in and out of bed and pulling myself up and to even sleep! You should get one, if you don't already have one.

Also, Are you sure you're supposed to swallow whole pills? I thought all pills had to be crushed. You should double check with that. Even my Vitamins are in liquid form, my doctors/nurses stressed not to take any whole pills, to crush them..hm.

Sorry to hear that you are having so much pain. I am 1 month out and the lap band was my first surgery. Other than the cold I came home with I flew through it great. Took 1 pain pill the afternoon of and that was all. One week later I was sitting in my chair at work grooming dogs. Of course I did not lift them up or down but did the hair cutting. Now I am doing pre spring yard work.

Hang in there it gets better!!!!!!

wow . sorry to hear that you are in so much pain. i didnt have any. i only felt a little sore on the incision. but , not enough to take anything. i hope you feel better soon. i think you will feel it is worth it later. the weight does come off. i was banded in mexico by dr. huacuz, i have lost 85lbs. i want to lose 30 more. everyone says i look good now, but i need to lose more. it was easy till a few months ago. now im kicking it at the gym and i watch my calories. i ended up writing my food down. i hate that , im really busy and dont want to have to do the work. i think i slowed down due to muscle gain. soon i should start to lose again. i look toner and thinner. soon you will be where im at . good luck . cat:rolleyes:

I can totally relate... I just got banded yesterday and I'm in a whole lotta pain! I am on Tylenol 3's... but even breathing in seems to hurt. Its like I can feel the band all the time and it hurts. I think I am feeling that "stuck" feeling everyone is talking about, but I am keeping down Clear liquids (strict 30 day clear liquid diet post-op for me) and I'm not nauceous, so I'm thankful for that. Anyway, hold in there... I'm sure it will get better for both of us!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
