I feel very overwhelmed everyday about EVERYTHING.

My surgery is on the 22nd. I have everything I need for the hospital and the first month or so at home. I have a great support system as well. I was so excited to get going, I even asked for an earlier date. All of a sudden today I started really second guessing my decision! I am not scared of the actual surgery at all, but I think I am of the life change. I love food, and have always been bigger, so I don't know anything else. I have some major back issues, and know this is what I need to do to be healthy. Am I crazy?? Anyone else have this little freak out??

Me too, on the back issues. The pain is terrible by the end of the day. I have scoliosis, which was mild but has gotten worse with the weight gain over the years. I want to be pain free, or at least pain tolerable. I am VERY concerned about not being able to take nsaids after surgery. Nsaids have been my best friend for quite a while. Will Tylenol help? Maybe, or maybe not, but losing weight will definitely help. As for the freak out, I'm feeling a tad jittery now that the insurance has approved me and all my requirements have been met. I do know that a case of the jitters WILL NOT change my mind.

I am not alone! :) I will not change my mind either, and this feeling freaked me out alittle to be honest. Being pain free is my goal as well, it has been soooo long, I won't know how it feels! Best of luck to you!

Thanks Dorian! Good luck to you too! Have you tried Tylenol for pain yet? This is my last week to use Naproxin. My doctor recommends not using it for a month before surgery. I will miss it, but only for a little while I hope. I need to start walking more. Another thing to get used to before surgery. The weather is beginning to cooperate finally. I have a chubby little dachshund who will be my walking buddy (he needs to exercise too). 2013 will be an year of change.

I am relieved to hear other people being nervous also. My surgery is Friday and as much as I know I am doing the right thing for many reasons (diabetes, weight, fibromyalgia) it is starting to make me a bit crazy. Somehow knowing others feel the same way makes me feel better. Sending good thoughts to all.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
