Hello! I've been lurking around the board for a bit reading all the great posts. Here's my story, struggled my entire life with weight and food! Lost with Weight Watchers once about 20 years ago, have tried numerous times since with no luck at sticking to it since I developed diabetes about 10 years agao, after I swore I would not let it get me(my father died from complications from diabetes). I also have high chlorestrol, high triglycrides (life threthening high), thyroid problems, major reflux, sleeping problems. I'm a hot mess! My BMI is right at 35, not as high as some, but I'm extremly effected by this extra weight. Last year the doctor put me on an insulin pump, gained 25 so far from that!

I've studied up on the LapBand and the sleeve. However everyone I talk to says my best chances of diabetes remission is the bypass.

It is sad to me that I need to take such drastic measures to control my weight, but it is what it is. I hear all sorts of requirements about insurance, however I'm determined to fight if they say no. The amount they pay each month for my insulin alone is astronomical. Some where close to $900, and that' s only for the insulin, not all my other meds.

I went to a seminar back in January with someone from work, but didn't act on anything, but now I'm ready. If they turn me down I will appeal. My insurance is self funded by my company I've heard you have a better chance of getting a decline over turned if your in a self funded plan.

Anyway, just wanted to say hello and make some friends to go along my journey with!

PS: I have Cigna insurance (if anyone has anything to share about them)

Renee

Hi Renee.. I am new to the forum too. It took me two years to make up my mind. I had the lapband a few years ago but it didn't work for me. I just had the bypass on Monday and got home from the hospital today. So far am ok but worrying about the unknown.. Wish you all the best

Renee, I had bypass 4 years ago, never regretted my decision! I had high blood pressure, sleep apnea, and I was pre-diabetic. All symptoms gone! I have lost 110, maintained it overall. I thought it was a drastic decision too. But it was also life-saving for me. I hope you have peace about your decision. For me, it has been a fabulous journey!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
