How can I tell I'm full? How do I know if I'm drinking slow enough?

Recommended Posts

I'm worried I'm drinking to fast. I'm worried I'm eating too much. I just don't know. I can't judge right now. I'm not sick feeling. I haven't thrown anything up. Can I hurt myself by drinking to quick?

You can make yourself if you drink too quick. When was your surgery? Measuring is very important for the first few months, until you can learn to eyeball how much 1/2 cup is, or however large your serving should be. I measure out portions every day.

You will know if you are drinking too fast as it hurts. I know initially I just took sips but can take more now but still takes me time to get 16 oz down. As far as food I would measure follow your guidelines, eat slow and chew, chew, chew. I tend to put my fork down between bites and sometimes I am doing other tasks while eating so i don't eat so fast.

Surgery was on the 1st. I measure it all out...but it doesn't take me 20 minutes to drink 2 tablespoons. I can make the food last longer...I worry about the drinking though. I can literally drink a medicine cup in a minute or so while not thinking and it doesn't hurt....but I'm worried I'll end up hurting my pouch. I'm still on liquids. They gave me recipes for cheesy grits and harvest food and such...I haven't eaten a ton. I just don't know what it feels like full.

Im 8 months post op and struggle with not feeling full. So I have to be very aware of how much I eat. Seriously ONE bite too many can make or break me.

I get a runny nose and sneeze. Funny but that's my sign that I'm full lol.

When we are eating and I take one bite to many it feels stuck. Same feeling if I drink to fast or too much in one drink (gulp or attempt to chug)

Liquids follow the path of least resistance which will be up or down but not out and stretching your pouch. As long as you aren't chugging and causing pain you'll be fine. I've been able to take fairly normal swallows since immediately post-op, doc said good for me :). food however is a different store, slow slow slow :). You'll be okay!!!!!

Where is the pouch? is it in the center of my stomach? I'm still sore. I'm just worried I'll cause a leak or something.

Don't worry about being able to drink that much. If you're not feeling pain when drinking, you're fine.

You're doing great, we are all in the same boat. It is a trial everyday. We all have to find out what works for us. Stick with the plan your surgeon and NUT gave to you and you can't go wrong.

Well, he also sent me home with percocet pills. I trust him....but it didn't say to crush them or anything. So, I've been swallowing them whole. I don't know. The nurse in the hospital gave me one. It kind of freaked me out.

My RNY was 8/24/09 & I haven't felt hungry or full a day since. I think it is the reason for my success. I'm always concerned I may stretch my pouch and not know.

This might be a little weird. But a key sign that I am full is when my nose starts to get runny. For some odd reason I get a runny nose when I'm full lol

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
