Your initial post came up when I entered "destroyed" as a search work... why? Because this surgery has destroyed my life as well. Without going into great details I can tell anyone out there reading this that this surgery DOES have complications. I have experienced almost every one of the things that could happen....other than death of course. But I came close to that one as well. My life is NOT improved' date=' my weight may be down but I am NOT better off having had this surgery six years ago. I am on more medication now than before, see more specialists now than before and have paid out of pocket close to 20,000.00 after the initial surgery costs. Every day is a struggle. Arthritis that cannot be treated with anti- inflammatories because of having two stomach ulcers, one of which perforated my stomach wall allowing solid food to seep into my stomach cavity for six long weeks of miss diagnoses, severe anemia that has we going once a week for iv Iron transfusions, panic attacks and anxiety so severe I would think I was having a heart attack and I still to this day get sick at least once a week .... just because!! Saying this surgery destroyed my life is an understatement, this surgery took my life away from me and now I fight everyday just to be me.[/quote']

I'm so sorry this happen to you

Sending prayers your way. I had my RNY 6/26/13 and have had nothing but complications since. I had emergency surgery 8/2/13 to repair a hole in my pouch from an ulcer that perforated my stomach. Found out that my stomach ulcers are so bad that the RNY surgery should have never been done. Yes I had and EGD prior to RNY which showed ulcers and two other medical terms I can't pronounce. My surgeon put me on pepcid for a couple weeks before surgery to calm things down but that didn't work and I should have never had the surgery. I am NPO on TPN with no end date in site. I completely regret ever having RNY or any of the surgeries at that. I did this so I would cure my diabetes and live a long healthy life for my husband, children amd family. Now they are suffering seeing and taking care of me. I can no longer drive. I have a pic line in my arm I can't tKe anything by mouth all my meds are IV. I had to quit my job and have applied for disability and have a long road ahead of me. There was not much discussion of risks and complications with the program i went through just the glory of it all. God bless you and best wishes.

Left side pain is something I have delt with since my RNY on 6/26/13. I have been told its due to the ulcers in my old stomach. I also have ulcers in my pouch pre and post op. My surgery should have never been done but I didn't know that. Nor did my surgeon stop it. Please read all my posts it may help.

Have you consulted a lawyer..this seems like the worst kind of malpractice.

Hi, I've just now found this post and I have to express how sorry I am you have been through all of this. WoW... You really have been through a lot!

I hope now that your life is better.

I had the sleeve 5/21/12. I had my gall bladder removed in March. I too have severe esophageal spasms and I know how painful these things are!!! I have severe bile reflux and gastrits. My complications though are no where near what you have suffered. My surgeon is trying to get me to do the GB to help with the GERD and spasms and now that I've read your post I know the RNY will not help with the spasms. I had already refused to do the RNY. I am taking levsin as well for the spasms. I can't sleep on either of one of my sides at night because if I do, I will get a spasms and you are so right, they make you feel like you are having a heart attack and feels like labor pains in my chest and right side!

How are you doing now with the spasms and your life in general. Again, I hope things are better for you.

God Bless!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
