Length of time off of work?

Recommended Posts

I'm curious to see how long everyone took off of work for the surgery. Did anyone take the full 6 weeks?

I took 6 weeks. I also am an RN in a hospital and work 12 hour shifts. So happy I took the time off because by the time I got back to work I had everything down and was feeling great. I suggest taking as much time as you can. at least two weeks if you have a desk job but if you can take longer go for it. It is alot to learn initially and you don't always feel so great after discharge.

I have short term disability and I am able to take the full 6 weeks and I wanted to just because I wanted to make sure I was able to focus. I just do medical billing and people aren't always the most friendly when dealing with their medical bills. I've just heard you get extremely emotional after the surgery too, which is not normal for me. Haha I just want to make sure I don't have a breakdown on the phone with a patient hahaha. Seems silly saying that now.

I am taking the full 6 weeks. I feel I need it to get new patterns established and explore food options. I am very glad I'm doing it. Return to work is April 8.

I'm taking 4 weeks off. Realistically I could probably go back now (6 days post) but I'm going to enjoy all 4 weeks!

I took 2 weeks. If you have short term disability then I say take as long as you need.

I was thinking the same thing. Might as well get a mini vaca to "explore". I've just seen a lot of people saying they didn't take very much time and I didn't want to be a weenie haha

I only had two weeks of vacation. So after that I wasnt getting paid anymore. But if I had short term I would have taken it.

Would have like to taken a "mini" vacation, but only took 6 days off. I'm a certified coder & a medical biller, so having a desk job made returning to work pretty easy.

I'm hoping to only take off 3 weeks. It's what annual leave I have built up.

I took 3 weeks of STD. I could have taken up to 6 but I work in a small office so the burden was on everyone else while I was out. I felt up to going back, so I did.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
