Is there a flush for everyone before surgery.

Recommended Posts

Have to go to a pre op appointment on Friday, my surgery is scheduled for 3/26/13. I was planning to work on 3/25/13 but if I have to do a flush that's going to be impossible ( I'm a counselor cannot run a session from the bathroom. Lol. So just wondering if the flush is for everyone undergoing surgery!

Thanks!!

I was flushless...but, yeah, the 2 weeks of liquids pretty much did the job!!!

I didn't have any prep before surgery except to be NPO (nothing by mouth) after midnight prior to surgery. Every surgeon and program is different.

I had lost 47 lbs while working with my dietitian and because my BMI dropped from 43 to 36 my Dr didn't want me to do the liquid diet, told me to stop losing weight but I am doing my presurgical flush today cause surgery is tomorrow

*Surgery Scheduled 3/21/13*

I had no two week diet or flush. Just Clear Liquids one day before and nothing after midnight. Good Luck!

I had 3 days of clear liquids. My surgery is in the morning and I worked all day today with no problem.

I have to to do a flush the morning before my surgery and they said to start my leave that day as I'll be in the bathroom quite a bit.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
