REALISTIC WEIGHT LOSS

Recommended Posts

I lost about 40 lbs with the Lapband over a year and a half and gained it all back when I began having complications. I am now waiting on my revision on April 8.

Me too but had two bands before revision. Insurance companies are going to start denying lapbands due to all the revisions for failed bands....

So u ate normal food right up til surgery day? Im wondering is there a reason most drs give a pre op diet or liquid diet? Im nervous that maybe its better to not have food in your stomach when u have the surgery....like how long does it take to completely empty out lol i know prob a crazy question haha

Yes I ate normal until day before surgery all liquid and magnesium sulfate cleaned out my bowels....i didn't have any food in my stomach or bowels because of mag sulfate....I think different surgeons have different requirements same as different techniques for RNY.

Yuppers! I had 2 weeks of nasty shakes then 24 hours of Clear Liquids, but no bowel prep. However 36 hours pre-op I had a nasty GI bug and did my own natural bowel prep.

I don't blame then for denying them now. The lap band sucks! I have not been told to do any prep duet or liquid diet at all. I am watching what I eat on my own though and will likely drink just shakes for a few days ahead of time.

My doctor is having me do Optifast for one month prior to the revision surgery. I start Optifast on may 14 and am scheduled for surgery on june 12th. I am not scared to do the one month of liquids prior because I have done it before. My doctor is very conservative and works for the mayo Clinic so I am really confident in his skills. I am anxious that he wont be able to do the removal and revision in one surgery tho. Luckily I have never had blind fills and my band is in position so no issues there.

Does anyone know if the surgeon can tell if he will have to deal with a lot of scarring etc. By the results of an EGD? I had one two weeks ago as part of my approval process. Id like some assurance that there is a chance it will work. Thanks!

Yes my insurance is paying. I have high blood pressure and a TMI of 40.2. I lost about 45 lbs with the band but after five years have put 30 of it back on. I have had horrible reflux the last two years. I don't regret my band it just didn't work for me. My metabolism is in the tank so at this point my only option is RNY. Luckily I am covered and mayo clinic is doing my surgery.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
