Band to bypass disappointment.....

Recommended Posts

I just came from my nutritionist, she said my pouch was probably made too big, maybe....she wants me to call the Dr in the morning, she sd that I can eat way too much, this early on, with no restriction at all so far, Warning ! for revision surgery ask your dr to make pouch smaller if possible, I may revise my pouch... Not sure yet, will talk to dr and ask about the possibities....

My doc made me wait 6 months between band removal and bypass cuz he said if he'd done it when he did the band removal he would have had to have made a bigger pouch. Ack!!! Fingers crossed its just a flue and all is okay!!!

Marla I had the same band to bypass all in one and spent three nights in hosp. I am 5 weeks out and I can't eat more than 3 oz of food. They need to go in and look at your pouch with a scope.

Have you heard of anyone, who had a pouch that was way too big after revision?

No I have not. did they scope you to see if that is true? I do know that each surgeon has a different technique they use for RNY which allows more or less malabsorption to occur.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
