Just thought I'd share this so hopefully I can help others avoid complications. (Sorry for the graphics) Last Thursday I noticed a weird sensation vaginally as I used the restroom. When I proceeded to investigate I discovered my Mirena, was not were it should be it had fallen out of my uterus. So immediately I contacted my OB who says due to the fact that we have no idea when it moved, there is a large chance that I could be pregnant and not only that but I have lost 100lbs since my 11-13-12 surgery which would mean that birth-control might not work as well. Now if I would have had normal GB I don't think I would be as concerned as I am. But because I have had so many complications I am very worried. So for all you women who have mirena please be cautious I was I went a month ago to make sure it had not moved and I was assured it wasn't going anywhere. So if you feel something's off go with your instincts.

P.s if any one can suggest a birth control we can absorb well please let me know THANK'S!!!

Yikes! Did you get a pregnancy test yet?? That is one of the reasons I do not want to go with an IUD. I'm going to be starting Depo in about 2 weeks. Never tried it before, but we'll se how it works. I DO NOT like the idea of something implanted in me, such as an IUD or Norplant, or even the Nuvaring. I know I've severely limited my options by not wanting those, but I'm really hoping the shots work well for me.

I'm on depo and for the most part I like it. I'm getting my next shot for it next week and usually when I first get the shot I got bad stomach cramps for a couple days but that's it. I had rny on January 22

So i am assuming its because of the weightloss? Did your gyno say that was the cause? Thanks for sharing. ....

At pookybear

Be careful with depo shot. I worked in an ob/gyn office and my step daughter does the shots and they make you gain weight.

Yes they do after 2 rounds I gained a staggering 60lbs and couldn't get rid of it until my surgery

That's what we spoke about but she says it can happen to anyone...

Yes it does, but from the research I've done that's because the shot makes your body think you're pregnant, and the main weight gain is from food cravings and eating. Which will be minimal post op anyway. Also the average weight gain is only about 12 pounds. Unfortunately I don't have many other options, unless the BF wants to get snipped LOL

We can all talk about the anomalies - I have a friend who got pregnant (full term) at 45 with an ablation - anyone with a merina can monthly check the strings

My sister had GB 8 years ago. At year 4 & 2nd marriage she got pregnant. She carried her baby to 37 1/2 wks then she thought she was in labor wrong. What happen to her was very rare and because of her case studies have been done on hoe GB pregnant women are treated. Her small intestine had been twisting all along so when she went in to "labor" it was that the intestine has busted. Her baby was born perfect but during the csection the doc knew something was wrong so he called in 2 gen surgeons that told us what happened, this was a Wednesday so had to be kept asleep till Saturday. The exploratory surgery was done, all useless organs were removed, she now has only 12inches of small intestine, her GB had to be undone. It took her 7mo to recover enough to care for her baby (mom & help along with in laws). Her pre gb wght: 350, her weight now is 145 because of the loose skin if she didn't have it she would be about 115. She works out 4x a week. Works FT. So if anyone gts PG make sure ultrasounds are taken of your intestines!!

I am getting ready to have my surgery on the 13th... I cannot take any birth control with hormones due to a health condition so that rules out a lot of my options for BC... We have been using condoms and vaginal spermicide suppositories together and not having sex during my fertile phase... I hope that is enough to keep me from getting pg! I too tried depo 14 years ago after my first son was born. At the time I was a size 4-6... Six months later I had ballooned to a size 16!! So never again will I ever take depo

I had my first Mirena for five years and my second I've had for three years now. I can't feel my strings, never have been able to.

I do not want to get PG!!!!!!!

i’ve always been able to check the strings - if your nervous you can always go see your OB -

My Dr was from the military and shared that of the hundreds he put in - only ONE was expelled. I feel pretty good about those #’s

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
