Check with doc before taking gummies something about we can't absorb them. I am sure someone will ring in and say exactly why we aren't suppose to have them. My surgeon doesn't even start you on Calcium till your 3 months post op

Yup...no gummies recommended by mynsurgeon either...some problem with absorption.

My Dr has me chewing a couple of tums every day for Calcium. They are actually pretty good!

And that proves that we can absorb other than only citrate because tums arent. I think certain people dont absorb as well as others, thus making the docs recommend the citrate all the time in case. Im glad everyone is doing what works. Sometimes you have to figure that out on your own.

At my visit today I asked my surgeon about the types of Calcium. He explained that citrate is preferred because you don't need stomach acid or food to help with the absorbtion process. Carbonate needs stomach acid and/or food in order to absorb. For the first 6 months, most of us are on acid blockers so some may be absorbed, just not as much/as well as citrate. Also, whichever you take you need to include Vitamin D for absorbtion. This usually isn't a problem since most calciums also incluide D. I have taken calcium citrate for years because I didn't have to take it with food. Sorry if I ruffled anyone's feathers. Take whatever you and your medical team are ok with. I believe most of us want to be helpful sharing what we have learned through experience, MD instructions and research. We all learn from each other. If anyone is interested, this article has more information re calcium post WLS

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
