My insurance co. has finally approved the procedure, after 8 mos. I'm doing the Atkins in preparation, but it's a struggle. I'm starting to wonder if I can change all of these old habits...:)

Yeah, Maurice! My ins. took 8 months also. You'll do great! We didn't acquire all these bad habits overnight and it will take a while to undo them. But the band gives us a daily reminder. Best of luck to you for an uneventful surgery and minimal down time!

You are going to work wonderfully with your new band Maurice... Congratulations!!!!! That's the wonderful thing about the band... it helps you change your habits over time. I also had a very difficult time with low carb dieting before being banded... after... crave protein...protein... protein... go figure! Wishing you the best in your journey to Bandland!

Maurice, congratulations! This is a rough time, I know, trying to control that end-of-the-line feeling. But you do KNOW that being banded does not mean you'll never eat again, right?

You're on your way!! :):( :(

Welcome, Maurice.

You'll be getting banded on my one year bandiversary! It's natural to have a few anxieties, but you'll find that the band will help you for sure.

I'm being banded the same day!!!!

I have an appointment with the OR nurse today to go over all the details for surgery.

I'm supoose to start a liquid diet on Monday of next week but I'm going to try to start this weekend - I've been eating REALLY poorly the last 2 weeks

Good luck!

Did you check out the Support Group Forum for August yet? I think there's at least 5-6 others being banded on the same day.

yes, it appears that Aug 27th will be a busy day. I started my liquid diet yesterday. He wants me on it 2 weeks and I am about to climb the walls. Good luck to you.

Hello Maurice,

Remember the Atkins lets you eat a LOT of food and still lose weight.

Pre-op, you'll need to get along with small quantities of food. Post Op, it'll be even less, after the liquid phase.

You might want to check with your surgeon's nutritionist to see if Atkins will be OK pre-op.

And if there were not enough people getting banded on 8/27/07, I am as well! I definitely understand the feeling of being in the "home stretch" now with the pre-op diet, but only good things to come very soon! Good luck to all of you on your banding day!

I also will be banded on 8/27/07. I had an original date of July 10th and I was just about to go under the knife when the surgeon and the anesthesiologist decided to cancel the surgery because of me having high glucose levels. So now that's under control and I all ready once again. I'm getting excited again also. My surgery is scheduled for 8:30 AM, I'm the first one for the day. Say a little pray for me guys. Oh by the way, how do you get the little ticker thing, I'm going to need that once I get banded :whoo:

I'm scheduled for the 29th! Just found out a few days ago so not on the preop diet for long but it came suddenly and I never go my "last supper"!! So it's been a little hard emotionally, but today I think I'm good. Check out the Crazy Ates thread and there's also another Aug 2007 thread. We being at the end of the month can see what my be ahead for us!

Ticker - I just did mine yesterday finally. Just go to tickerfactory.com and set it up then copy it. Open the user CP that is at the top of lapandtalk.com and paste it on to your signature section. God, I feel so smart....

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
