So today i received news from my doctors office that i will not qualify for the gastric sleeve(due to severe acid reflux) but that i can convert to the gastric bypass, but i'm so scared because i have heard not so many good stories about the bypass. I really want to feel as comfortable with the bypass and i did with the sleeve and i know that will take time. I just wanted want some POSITIVE reassure and stories from other who have had the bypass or those who are going to have the bypass. If you can share you story i would apprieciate it alot :)

I had bypass, I was in the hospital for 2 1/2 days, I had no complications what so ever, the pain was minimal and I was back to work in a week !!! I am now 9 months post op and feel fantastic... it was the best thing I ever did. BTW.. you lose more weight with the RNY than the sleeve or band, that is why I chose the RNY, if I was going to do it I wanted the best bang for my buck.

I'm knew here, I don't even know if I'm doing this blog right. I'm 32, and if all goes well my surgery will be in February. I know a lot about the surgery and that stuff( I have been a paramedic 11years). But I have weird questions, like has anyone not experienced flabby skin or needed the extra surgery for there excess skin?

Most people that have gastric bypass end up getting a Tummy Tuck or some kind of plastic surgery because , after all the weight loss the skin can't stretch all the way back... because it was never meant to be stretched out as far as it was when they were at their heaviest. Everyone is different but. So far most of the people who ive been following on youtube have had at least a tummy tuck :) hope this is helpful

I'm hoping to not have to have another surgery also. The only place I'm worried about is my stomach, I have a lot of upper body strength to begin with. It's like we have two body images to deal with, first the weight and then the excess skin. UGH

I am also pre op for the bypass. I'm scared and excited all at the same time. I have almost 200lbs to lose, so that's why I chose the bypass. I'm scared of failing and gaining the weight back.

We are all there with you. I think we have always known failure that its just become habit. But the bypass is our chance to live again, to be happy the way we all deserve. Failure is not an option this time, we are to important and beautiful.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
