Have any of you started using straws yet? Since most of youvarev3 months out now was wondering. I think it would help when we drink the Protein shakes

I use them now and then too. They do help with the protein.

Haha! I know what you mean about not recognizing yourself. I think that I still wear a 3-4x top. When I try it on and it's big I get kinda confused but I look at the 1-2x's and I think there's no way that will fit' date=' but they do. It's so strange. I had to have my Mom go with me the first time I went shopping cause I literally could not do it on my own. And jean shopping....oh boy! It doesn't help that you are a different size in every store! And thank you, the ulcer thing did scare me and I have just been trying to really accept and embrace this change of lifestyle. It's difficult and I think we all deserve kudos for it!![/quote']

My aunt was with me when I bought my first couple pairs of pants. If she wasn't there for the tops, I would have oversized them. We were at old navy and I liked this green shirt. I took the XL and she took it out of my hands and gave me a large. I told her she was crazy. Boy did I have my foot in my mouth when I tried it on and it fit.

I hear you about the jeans and different brands, stores, etc. kind of frustrating. Oh well. I was asked the other day if I recognize myself when I look in the mirror. I do. But an odd thing happened this morning when I woke up. I thought I was my old size and when I looked in the mirror, I was thinking "whew" I must have had a dream or something that made me think that.

It's a no-no for me, but I don't remember for how long. I do it anyway sometimes (probably 5x's in the 2mos since surgery). I totally agree with you that it would make it easier with the Protein drinks-especially to get past the smell and make it go down faster. I'll probably have my daughter bring me some from her work for those occasions-they have the large ones.

Not sure of the different articles that commented on the shampoos w Biotin are true. However, I read a couple articles that stated that the biotin has to be ingested to work. In Shampoo form, it doesn't help. For those of you using the shampoo and conditioner only, not the Biotin supplement, will you please let me know how you like it. If you believe it makes a difference.

My husband's full head of hair started thinning in back and receding in front. I asked my hairdresser what to do and he said he has seen amazing results with (mostly) women who use Bosley. I bought it and after using it a month my husband went to the woman who cuts his hair and she just couldn't believe the difference. She thought it might be so pronounced because of the change in his diet as well as the shampoo. He's been doing my diet (times twice as much food) and has lost 25 lbs, which is all he needed to lose. it doesn't appear to contain biotin so this may not be a helpful answer to your question.

Isn't that crazy? It's like I recognize myself and I see that I have gotten smaller, but I'm not used to it yet. But then I really can't remember what I looked like to myself when I was heavier either. I guess I'm not the "new" me yet, but I'm not the "old" me anymore either, to me I've always just been me. Lol. Does that make any sense? It is only 6am. ;)

Congrats for your husband. I'm not sure if I'm thinning. I have such a thick head of hair. But I know we are in those months (3-6) for it, so I was doing the research. I just worry about it.

Been checking in but not posting.... Happy to hear that most are doing well, even if the weight loss isn't what you hoped for. Don't lose hope!

I've been running around to doctors trying to figure out the laryngitis issue that coincided with the bronchitis I developed, early in February. Found out I have a mass on my vocal cords that has to be removed on the 22nd of March. The ENT went down with a scope and found it. Irritated because the physicians assistant at my primary doctor's office was almost angry with me for being so concerned about the laryngitis. So many medications later and still no relief but at least, we finally have a cause. It is covering 2/3's of my vocal cords (both sides) and is quite huge according to him. He doesn't "think" it is cancerous, but rather from prolonged acid reflux. He has put me on 80mg. of omeprazole which has helped tremendously with pouch pain I was experiencing. I never felt any burning in my throat, just an overfullness occasionally. My biggest complaint would be pain in the same pouch region every time I ate. I chalked it up to healing. So today, I had my three month RNY surgeon follow-up and nutrition class. He was pleased with weight loss and all blood work/vitamin levels, etc....normal! Explained everything that's been going on, Healthwise to the surgeon, and he was not concerned about the GERD now, because the medication the ENT provided gave me relief from the pouch pain. Never suggested what it could be but by your posts it sounds like maybe an ulcer. I also agree with all the posts about the clothes shopping being so different, now. I hold clothing up and someone mentions I am buying too big, yep! Still trying to convince myself that I am smaller, compliments and all. I see it, but can't believe it! Wow! Don't always lose the pounds quickly but there always seems to be a shift in the fat cells somewhere! My average loss is only about 2 lbs. a week.

Glad they figured out what was wrong. Prayers to you for a flawless surgery and recovery. I'm dealing with nausea that they can't figure out why. Have had back to back UTI's and not lots of tests ahead. CAT scan, Endoscopy, ultrasound, blood work and urologist.

Keep up on the great work despite how crappy your feeling! :)

I am very familiar with what u are going through. I have a 7 year old son who was born with the same thing connecting his vocal cords. He has had 17 surgeries to remove it and it continues to grow back. He is going in for number 18 on the 28th.....we have switched from children's hospital to uofm in hopes to get some answers. They are removing his tonsils and adnoids this time as well. I will keep you in my prayers for a quick and easy recovery.

Wow, your family has been through a lot. Have they told you what the growth is from or what is causing it? I am anxious to hear what they say mine is caused from. ENT told me it's as if my vocal cords tripped and fell and have a big scab on them. Baffled him! Hope this surgery goes well and that soon your son will be free from having this growth and anymore surgeries. Has his voice stayed intact throughout all of the surgeries? I will also say a prayer for your family for continued strength.

We must def be in the time frame for hair loss!! I'mtaking the Biotin everyday and using fall fight Shampoo. I'm almost scared to brush my hair I lose about 60 strands each time and when I wash and condition another handful and I have to wear my hair up in a ponytail cause when it's down I'm covered in hair it's embarrassing! The odd thing is its not breaking off its just falling out of my scalp with the roots still on the ends of the strands idk what else to do you can tell it has thinned luckily I had thick hair to start with hoping it will regroup and fill back in and this nonsense stops before I'm bald!

Keep up on your Protein and biotin regiment and it should turn around on you. I'm thankful for thick hair too cuz either I'm paranoid or mine is thinning a little.

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
