Taking Pills.......ugggh

Recommended Posts

Wow, i was getting a bit scared reading this thread I'm still in the pre-op stage but i take a ton of pills for all kinds of stuff but my surgeon said he believed for the most part I would probably be eliminating most of them right after surgery, but then as I was reading this thread and seeing how many of you still have to take them I started thinking holy cow there is no way I'd be able to crush all those pills and no way I'll be able to swallow them whole. Thank goodness you guys mentioned they make this stuff in liquid form, that is great to know just in case i still will have to take some of my pills. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS INFO... It's a life saver.

Yes, applesauce works great to eliminate the taste I have a pill grinder/cutter and I put my pills in applesauce after I smash them it works great try that. I am post op 2 months now and I still have to take my cholestorol meds and my high blood pressure meds and I also have degentertive disc disease and arthritist so I take ant-flam and pain meds for my back also.

I'm 6 weeks out & STILL have trouble with my daily meds. If swallowed they end up hurting & feeling stuck. The alternative of crushing them up is just nauseating! Wish there was an easy fix.

Break them in half

Do the painkillers come in liquid form? Crushed vicodin would taste horrendous with all the tylonol in it =/

Oh I thought we had to continue to crush our meds forever. I am 3 months post op so does that mean I can just take my pills without crushing them now? and do we still have to drink those horrible Protein Shakes?

You should always ask your doc before you change from crushed to pill form. I know that my doc said that I could start pills after 3 mos.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
