Did you have surgery already or are you pre-op? You surgeon's office should be educating you and answering ALL your questions. My surgeon would not perform surgery unless you attended ALL of his nutrition, medical and surgery classes. He wanted to know that you knew 110% of everything that would be happening to you, what you should eat and what you sould do if at certain stages etc.

Sounds like you should see your nutritionist! To still be having so many issues isn't a good position to be in... Are you trying to eat the same food you ate before surgery? If so you will be ill. I got thru most of what you listed within about 6 wks. But I don't eat anything more than 3 ounces at a time.. meat doesn't do so well. eggs are so out of the question! Slow, slow eating is essential. And sipping Water all day! Go see the dietician!

Channing... I agree with everyone else. If you do not have a nutritionist... get one. Your surgeon should have one that he/she uses. Sounds like you are having some real problems and need to get in touch with your doctor immediatly. Best wishes.

You could use some help with nutrition from a professional. With me I use Liquid Protein. I have gotten extremely creative with making liquid Protein so my body can get the energy needed to keep working. For one thing things you could eat before the surgery may not work for you any more. Give you an example I was able to eat soy before the surgery. Had hot and sour Soup with regularity however post surgery I am allergic to soy and can not have anything with soy. I also am not able to eat bread and it took me 22 months before I could eat meat and cheese in the same meal. For salt I have nuts :) salty and protein. mayo is another past food I can not eat it. I have mostly liquid protein, vegetables, and meat. Carbs are something I can not eat. However I also have more energy than I had in years at over 300lbs

You have a lot of questions! I agree with the others that you should talk to a professional. I'll give you my opinion though. I'm 5 years out from my gastric bypass. I'm 5'4 started at 300 and today I'm 115. .. I'll do my best to answer most of your questions.

1- if your sodium is low try a chicken broth to drink. It's very high in sodium and will help get your fluids as well as a little Protein in you.

2- salt is okay to have just make sure that you are drinking fluids too

3-meat can be very dry and if you don't chew it up enough it can make you sick. I would mix your tuna with mustard. Mustard is one of the few Condiments that doesn't have corn Syrup in it, so you won't get sick but it will moisten your meat.< /p>

4-you need to have a favorite cup or Water bottle ..it needs to be your best friend. Believe me, it's no fun to drink when you are so full. I know the feeling. Just take constant sips through the day.

5- get some chewable Vitamins, make scrambled eggs and cream Soups your friend. Don't worry about high fat things now. Just worry about getting your protein in.

6-no one is the same. So your journey will be different. Don't expect that there's a magic day that all the sudden you can consume more or drink more. It takes time. For example: I am 5 years out and I still can't eat more than a cup of anything. My sister who also had a gastric bypass is 1 year out and she can eat a ton and eat fast. Which circumstance would you rather be in? You paid all this money and went through all these emotions you might as well make this a life commitment and be thankful that you are not able to eat like you used to. It's a blessing. It's annoying, but it's a blessing.

7-I used to make one scrambled egg and it would take me 2-3 hours to eat it. It was stone cold by the time I finished it. The point is eat slow, chew until its puréed in your mouth, as long as you eat it at some point you're good.

8-these are the aftermath of being malnutriioned, which you can't do much about now. Just worry about getting stronger. I walked a lot. I was So weak I couldn't climb a stool after 3 months. You're strength will come back. Just takes time BUT you do need to work at it. You won't get it back by sitting on the couch all day.

9-I STILL go through this. It's a symptom of the dumping syndrome. It's your body saying "too much" or "too fast" or "too fatty" the best way to get over this is two things 1) lay completely flat on your bed, couch or floor (no pillow). By laying down it'll actually slow your stomach from puting food into your intestine too fast.. Which is making you have dumping in the first place OR 2) you can throw up and get it over with. Hah sounds sick, but it's true. Sometimes you can't fight the enviable

10-dry mouth? I don't have any advice for that one. Sorry :(

11- I sadly but at the same time happily got rid of all my "before" clothes. So sorry again.

12-same as above

13-it's another dumping syndrome. Sounds like you really need to slow down and chew better. I'm saying chew until you practically puréed it in your mouth.

14-it's not ALWAYS dumping. It could be you ate something bad, it could be the result of having our full bladder taken out, it could be a bug...but for the most part out can probably blame it on dumping syndrome.

15-I personally don't have the diarrhea. I have the dry heaving slimies a lot. My sister gets the diarrhea though. Like I said, everyone is different.

16- try my methods that I mentioned in 9

Hope these helped. Good luck! It seems hard now. It's get better, I promise. Take it from the hundreds of thousands of people who would do is all over again if we had to!

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
