I am just getting started...

Recommended Posts

:nervous So I just set up my very first appt to see if I am able to do the Lap-Band. I am kind of nervous but also excited. I have 2 co-workers that have gotten the gastric bypass surgery but I am positive that I cannot have that kind of surgery. I will be going to Dr. Felix in Fresno, CA. Since I have an 8 hour drive to his office his staff was kind enough to get my 3 appts on the same day for the Nutritionist, the Psychologist, and then the Doctor. I am not really sure what to expect. I guess I am just looking for support.

My parents who were both born in Mexico and are really traditional are not really sure why I am even thinking of having this surgery. My husband is supportive though. My parents, husband, and a couple of co-workers are the only ones that know I am thinking of having the surgery.

So I just wanted to say hello to everyone and I hope to make some friends here.

Welcome!!! I cannot say enough good things about my band!!! It has truly changed my life, given it back so to say.

I too had to travel for surgery, I actually went to Mexico for the surgery, and now have a 10 hour round trip to my fill/follow up Dr. I do have arrangements made for emergencies here close to home. Just living in a rural area, there are no other options.

You have found an awesome site, and great support here! But none of it can compare to the support you will be getting from your DH (Dear husband, darling husband, damned husband...depending on the mood!!!). Hang out with us, ask questions, make yourself at home!!! We are glad to have you here!!!

Welcome Sandra!

If it weren't for the support of these amazing people on this board, I'd never have gotten through my surgery as well educated and prepared as I am!

Good luck!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
