I had my surgery on 10/8 and am still in lots of pain. Can anyone tell me when the pain stops? This pain medicine tastes terrible and makes me gag I want to be able to stop taking it and I want to be able to sleep on my side or on my stomach again. And does anyone get any sharp pains in various places every now in then in ur stomach area? Need some help and positive advice!!

Everyone tolerates pain differently. I cannot tolerate one ounce of pain, in other words I am a big baby. The only pain I had after surgery and when I was home was really muscle sorness. It took a good week before I could lay on my side and about a month before I could lay on my stomach.

If the pain does not feel right call your doctor !!!

Everyone is different like said above but each day it should get better and by 2 weeks you should be feeling a lot better.

this kind of stuff is good to read I want a realistic vision of what to expect after surgery I'm trying to decide between a sleeve or bypass... that sounds crazy to me to be in pain and not able to lay on your stomach a month later

I had my surgery on 10/12 and also am a big baby. I took pain meds for only the first 2 days after surgery. It was mainly for muscle soreness. I still can not lay on my side or tummy.. so sleep is not great! I also am getting tired of liquids! I would like to have a little more assortment. Anyway.. Regardless of sleeve or rny they still cut your tummy muscles and fill ya full of air. I researched and researched on the sleeve and rny. I really liked the sleeve too! Until I talked to my surgeon. I had a hernia with TERRIBLE gerd (acid reflux) and he said that the sleeve wouldn't have been option. However I would think recovery from either surgery is probably about the same. ;) good luck in your decision! Only you know what's best for your own body.

The pain is from the muscles in our stomach being punctured. My doctor said it needs to heal and from the incisions kind of reajust. I am 19 days post op. I just get very fatigue still....

I was wondering the same thing. When does the pain go away? Some one should have warned me about this, lol.

I agree about being warned about the pain. I feel like everyone just talked how great this surgery was but no one said how painful it was though. I am finally off the nasty pain Meds from the hospital and on tylenol. Can't wait to sleep comfortably in a bed though and not be so tired. I want to be back to my normal busy self.

They tell you that you will be sore but that's about it. I think you should have to take a pain management class. For me it was about three weeks. I'm a month out today. Physically I feel fine. I've got some other issues going on but pain free as far as the surgery goes. It does get better, I'm sure you are tired of hearing that. I know I was...lol. Take care everyone!

Ya I get that every once in a while usually when I sit too long hunched over and then stand up. I also get it when I lay flat on my back. I don't if its normal but I get it. When the pain gets to me a bit especially at work sitting at my desk I take a tylenol. Did have a question about anyone being able to sleep on their stomach?

Ya that's where I get it when I sit at my desk. Ur body takes awhile to get used to crunching up again versus us being reclined for so long like we were. I'm three weeks out today and been back to work almost a week now and it still hurts. U just gotta get up and walk around a but at work I try to do it when my alarm goes off to eat. I walk around the courthouse at work or take a walk upstairs. It helps if u don't let urself sit there 8 or more hours without getting up and moving. And remember we are using some of our core muscles sitting at the desk we aren't used to.

My pain was to the left of my belly button. My Doc said it was likely soreness from my pouch. I'm just five months out today and it still happens occasionally. You will be able to sleep on your stomach again too. I sleep on my stomach every night with no trouble now ~ but it took a while to get there. Good luck.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
