Tips For Avoiding Loose Skin?

Recommended Posts

I am putting together a list for myself of things I can do to avoid/reduce having loose skin after weight loss. Please add to the list if you know of anything I missed...

- Use lotion at least once a day with Vitamin E, Keratin and Cocoa Butter in it

- Do toning exercises to build a tight foundation under skin

- take detox baths with sea salt to tighten skin and get out toxins

Anything else? Let me know

Kathy

There is now way to totally prevent loose skin. There are many factors that contribute ... age, size, how fast you loose etc. No cream or lotion will totally prevent loose skin. Its kind of like a rubberband.. once you stretch it beyond its point, where you get stretch marks there is no getting it back to its normal state. The older and bigger you are the less it will go back - sorry for the not so good news :( I keep hydrated, and I lotion my skin not that that helps with the droopy thighs or wiggly underarms I have but it just makes me feel better.

Has anyone ever done the Insaity workout or P90X and seen success in losing excess skin? "Normal" people look like they have less flabby skin in their after photos. I have wondered if it would work for excess skin as well. Or is it comepletely unreleated? lol

Hi Kelly, My daughter is a college track and field heptathlete (7 events) and she said that workout is tough for her so I personally wouldn't be able to do it. It will definately make you sore but if you are up to a challenge go for it. As for the skin issue, I do think it is unrelated. I have read that you can have 6 pack abs but if the elasticity in the skin is gone the only way to fix it is with plastic surgery. I have also read that if you are young, stay hydrated and use lotion that you might be able to keep the skin elastic enough not to cause a problem.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
