My journey is a bit different than most. I was malnurished as an infant/toddler. I was underwieght and anemic for most of my childhood. My nickname from my brother was "Bag of Bones" because I was too skinny. My wieght is blamed on hormonal changes and imbalances thru my life. At age 16 I was told I should be a model at 5 ft, 6 in and 125 lbs. It wasn't until I had my first child that the weight became an issue. I gained 30 lbs b/w my son and my daughter. I gained another 20 lbs after my daughters birth. I continued to gain and loose the same 30 lbs for the next 10 yrs until I had a hysterectomy at age 33. I kept my ovaries but still had hormonal issues that made me gain up to total weight of 215 lbs. I again managed to loose 30 lbs and get down to 185 lbs until I broke my ankle in 2004 and my thyroid started to fail in 2005. No matter how hard I tried my weight kept climbing to my highest weight on 1/2/11 of 265 lbs. I had developed sleep apnea, asthma, hypothyroid with goiter, insulin resistance, reactive hypoglycemia, GERD, Vocal Chord Disorder, Chronic sinusitis from deviated septum, year round allergies, food allergies, chronic back pain, chronic clinical depression, anxiety attacks and chronic fatigue syndrome. Simply getting out of bed each day is a major effort. Each of these conditions aggrivate all of the others so when one acts up they all act up. I was told in the summer of 2011 to look into Weight Loss Surgery but I wasn't ready to go there yet. I tried the HCG Diet and successfully lost 40 lbs. Then the doctors found a dermoid tumor in my right ovary that was the size of a canteloupe. I had surgery to remove the tumor and my ovaries in December 2011. The resulting hormonal imbalances made the HCG ineffective and I regained the 40 lbs. It was at this point that I seriously looked into WLS. After researching this, I wish I had done it 10 years ago.
