Why is chocolate a No No?

Recommended Posts

I'd like to understand why chocolate is such a no no on this board? I'm only asking b/c once a month - I do get my craving. I also undertstand that hot chocolate is ok. I'm only guessing b/c of the caffeine? I'm not looking to gorge myself on candy bar after candy bar - but would like my now and then fix.

Any answers?

My understanding is that chocolate is not a "No No" because it bad for the band. Rather, chocolate is a "No No" because it is, well, chocolate. From what I hear it really goes down easy and is no problem for the band at all. That's the problem. (It's not that I have any personal knowledge in this area. :P Right.)

Who says chocolate is a no-no? If you are a dieter (as I assume we all have been at one time or another) you're well acquainted with the pitfalls of a chocolate habit. But chocolate poses no particular hazard for bandsters--and I for one am glad that's the case! :P

Thanks Alexandra; you answered it for me. I was under the impression that it was a No No, somehow bad for the band. If I treat myself now and then with some chocolate (1 time a month for my PMS)...I would like to when I can!

If you can just eat a bit at that time of the month or whenever, it's not a big deal. But some of us are so addicted to sweets that we can't stop at one or two pieces. This is where we get into trouble.

I'm more the whole fatty/Mexican food/Italian food kind of person so I can eat a bit without trouble. But many can not. Personally, we can't keep cheddar cheese in the house!

Does this board have food no-nos?? (Honestly, do we?)

I dont' like chocolate, so it's pretty much an auto-no-no for me. But I think people tend to stay away from it because one of those things that you can't have just one of.

My opinion - if you crave something, have some of it. Unles, of course, you have to buy it in a sandwich baggy on the street corner.

I get wicked chocolate cravings around TOM and I have, on occasion, had a little bit with no problems what so ever. True, it's not a weight-conscious food to select but sometimes a girl's gotta have some chocolate!! If that's all you're doing and it makes you feel better then have a little.

Someone forgot to tell me! Ooops.

I eat choccie occasionally. But I dont have the tolerance for rich foods I once did, it makes me feel sick very quickly, so I just have a couple of pieces now, usually we buy a block for the family to share when we get a DVD on a Saturday night.

Its not an official no no. From experience eating chocolate slows the weight loss because it goes down sooooo easily!! It becomes an easy go to because it tastes good, goes down easily and is readily available.

I eat it now ONLY on occassion

It goes down easily even when you are tight because it melts and slide through- for lots of us it can be hard to stop at a small taste- i think thats the only reason some of say its a no no, if you be satisfied with the occasonal small taste its probably a reasonable treat- for me it would be like a double whiskey to an alcoholic- tough to stop!!

I'll ditto that! Give me a nice meal at Olive Garden over a bunch of candy or chocolate, any day!

I eat chocolate almost every day - weight loss is about overall calorie consumption, not the specific food. I think because it's a binge-trigger food for a lot of people they just flat out swear off of it.... if I tell myself I can't have something i just want it more and more.... so I just let myself have what I want within calorie limits and it works out just fine. Figure out what works for you and go with that - there is no right or wrong here.

i love chocolate once a month and if i don't have it i will eat anything else until i get it. i really don't eat too much - just enough and sometimes one/one bite more and i'm ok.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
