Does any one else here feels like the way their parent's treated food may have affected your eating habits now? OK I'm not saying it's your parents fault that we are overweight, but okay I grew up in a household that whatever was put on your plate you ate it, and we got the " do you know how many people out there starving" speech. I think the problem is that (atleast for my generation) is that to much food would be on the plate and regardless if your full or not your made to eat all of it. I think that's why I would eat even when I was full because I grew up and did the same thing put too much food on my plate and in the back of my mind it's "like you know how many starving people are out there". I know when my kids were little I watched their portion sizes but I find myself now give them more than what they probably need but I guess I deliberately do that because my kids are really little but I have to think to myself I was once their size when I was their age so no I gotta break the cycle. The crazy thing is I can't tell you how many times I have given the "starving people" speech. Lol

I completely understand what you mean. I don't think our parents ment any harm, they wanted to make sure we got what we needed. But they didn't think of portions cuz they didn't grow up with correct portions. That is why I am getting on the right track now before I have children so I can raise them in a healthy home, I know how hard it has been on myself being larger than everyone else all my life. Being larger runs on both mine an my husbands side of the family. I don't want my children to grow up like I did. Don't get me wrong I love my parents an the way they raised us I know they never ment any wrong. They just didn't know the harm in it all. I too got the children starving speech an that is perminant in my mind..

I wasn't force to eat all my food, but since little I love eating. I wasn't over weight. If the food was extra good I was getting another serving. I can eat non stop & didn't gain weight. After having children is when I started gaining & got fat. I never had issues with eating & gaining till after having kids.

Absolutely, we were poor growing up and ate as an escape. my mom always pushed food on us, way too much. Now with my kids i do not do that, i tell them to stop when they are full, i want to break the cycle.

Absolutely. No doubt about it and both of my parents were not overweight. I don't doubt for a second that they did it out of love and with the very best of intentions. But that doesn't make it healthy. Mizzlaw said it all - stop when you're full. Period.

My mom was the youngest of nine kids so big meals was prob made, I remember her once saying (when I was young) "she didnt kno how to make small meals cuz the household she came from was large" my mom had two kids but cooked more than necessary, no doubt she herself growing up in the 60's & 70's prob heard THE SPEECH a million times.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
