Can't Have Surgery :(

It's important enough to get a second opinion. You never know!

No. Gastric bypass is a major surgery and everyone that I have ever heard of has to have a psych eval prior to surgery. Let the doctors do what they do best. It is not uncommon for someone to be initially denied based on the psych eval and then be approved later following some period of time for treatment or counseling. My suggestion is simply not to give up too easily and certainly not before you have a good understanding of exactly what your options are and why you may or may not be a candidate for the surgery. Good luck in your journey!!

If you spend some time reading the posts on this forum you'll see that doctors vary widely in many, many aspects of their practices. There isn't just one way to do most things and doctors care for their patients based on their experience and the success of their patients. You already have seen that you can get two totally different results from two different practices. You just want to be absolutely certain that your doctor is a board certified surgeon and if possible, the hospital is certified as a Center of Excellence by the American Society Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.

Sorry to hear about your denial however as DL stated the surgeon's requirements vary & if you keep searching you are bound to find a surgeon to help you in your WLS! Best of luck

Never, ever give up on something you want and know will be good for you! Definitely find a center that will work with you. Even then...if they say no...then go another route. Find a therapist that deals with eating issues and work with them. Let them know the truth..that you were told no and the reason why. Then work on it with the therapist and that therapist can then let the bariatric group know her/his opinion.

I hope you don't give up. I hope you can find someone willing to operate on you. Good luck!

I was initially refused for psych eval also. Started therapy on eating disorders. Then i changed clinics...closer to home anyway. It has been a long road (18mo) but i feel totally ready and surgery is sept. 24! Don't give up. I am 67 and i just kept on marching straight ahead. Nothing which has the capacity to help you live a fuller and more productive life comes easily.

I wish you a new path filled with fulfillment and new horizons...dont give up.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
