Banded today! (1/31)

Recommended Posts

:update:

I got banded this morning- checked in at 6, into OR at 7 and left at 10:15... I feel okay-the usual

  • sore
  • gassy (this is getting more uncomfortable as the day goes on despite walking and gas x but it is not as bad for me as some people seem to have it.
  • tired
  • a bit silly from pain meds
  • a bit of blood leakage from incisions, that has stopped

but I am doing much better than I expected. :rose: :) I am taking Gas X (strips) every 2-3 hours (2 at a time) and ibuprofin. I am keeping a list by my stack of meds where I write down

time what I took dose when I can have my next dose

12 pm pain med 3 TSP 3 PM

the blue is a sample of what I write. It just seems like a good idea, helps me not take too much of anything or too often.

a couple spooky things - for one, even though I lost about 8 pounds before surgery my liver was unusually large according to the surgeon. It was nicked during surgery (it was so large he said it was very difficult keeping it out of the way) but they stopped the bleeding right away. My surgery took longer than most because of that but my surgeon is just going to monitor it as I lose weight, he thinks it is just large from being overweight.

question- is ibuprofin bad for the liver? if yes, I will switch to tylenol.

anyhow, I had my surgery at Evergreen Surgical Center with Dr. Kevin Montgomery in Kirkland WA. He and his staff were exceptional- great bedside manner and just really considerate of my comfort, of the person waiting for me in the lobby- everything. They do perform surgeries in the surgical center in their office but Premera is about a month or two from permitting patients covered by them to go there. For now, patients covered by insurance are using the surgical center at Evergreen.

his website is http://www.thelapband.com/ and my insurance (Premera BC) covered it all (100%). Out of pocket I hear it is $16,900 to have it done there, that includes 13 months of fills.

That's all- just thought I woudl send out a report. I am sore but better than expected- although I hear tomorrow will be worse. Anyone had that experience? (feel good the first day and rotten the second and third)?

talk to you all soon- looking forward to shrinking with you all :)

I just got banded today too! I went in at 7:45. Had my surgery at 9:30 and left the hospital at about 1:30. I was banded at Georgetown Bariactric Center in Georgetown Ky. The staff was excellent! In fact, for surgery, it was an exceptional experience.

I too am sore and have gas, but I feel pretty good other wise. I'm taking the drugs too. The odd this is I was hungry about an hour after I woke up from surgery! This clear liquid diet sucks already and I only have to do the Clear liquids for 3 days. (I had to do the Clear Liquids the day before surgery).

My doctor would not allow me to have ibuprophen for one week before the surgery. I was only allowed to take Tylenol. I'm not sure if that has anything to do with your liver, but it might...

I'm living for day 3 when I can have thin cream soups!

Good Luck with every thing!!!

Oh, I meant to add that I believe ibuprofen and Tylenol can be harmful to the liver if taken excessively and over long periods of time. But, I think Tylenol (acetominophen) does so more than ibuprofen. You may want to double-check with your doctor to see what his preference would be for you. Hope this helps! :rose:

It is so REAL for the two of you now.

Remember after a week , start out with short walks (15 minutes) . I have helped my band with exercise and I feel so good now. Just last night I was what is that? Oh my ribs. LOL

Six months after surgery is so different. It's wonderful. I can eat at any restaurant (share plates).

Booked a 25 year anniversary trip for September and I'm gonna be in skinny clothes!!!!

Edieparks, thanks for the six month comment! I am so looking forward to actually feeling the restriction and knowing it's working! I am day two from surgery and already hungry !!! I love looking at people's stats on here and seeing how much each person has lost and their secrets. It's truly motivational. Size 14 !!! I can't even begin to imagine... Good luck. I will probably start the walks sometime this weekend. I feel really good for having under gone the knife just yesterday. Good luck.

:update: :violin:

wow- did I turn a corner for the worse last night. I woke up and apparently the pain meds had worn off. I got up to use the bathroom and could barely walk it hurt so bad. then when I got back into bed I was just shaking with pain. the gas has me feeling like a hot air balloon. :rose: this part sucks!

I have been taking ibuprofin and my pain meds, soon I should have my medication back up to where I am a bit more comfortable and tonight I am going to set the alarm and get up every 4 hours to take my medications so I don't have to feel like that again.

I am much less mobile today, and the incision sites are sore:eek: sore:eek: sore:eek: but I am not as bad as I could be.

Hey thatgirl! My name is actually Laura, but my husband calls me or writes me notes with my name as Laureli (pronounced like you spell it). I have always loved that name.

I so can't wait to join everyone here on the "banded side". :0) I am waiting for my doctor to call and schedule an appointment for me to have the first consultation after the lap-band seminar I attended. My doctor is new to the area and isn't taking appointments until February so I'm kinda stuck as he is the only doctor my insurance will cover.

Good luck to you...I hope you are recovering well and doing

I know how you feel- I was SO excited when I got going... I had my consultation and surgery 2 weeks later. I would have had surgery the next day if they had an opening.

I made a word document shopping list and am editing it as I recover so I know what works, what doesn't. etc so be sure to PM me when you get your surgery date so I can send it to you if you want.

we'll be the Banded lLorelei's (using traditional spelling- mine isn't spelled traditionally either!). I think it is so cute that is your nickname. that is my mom's first name (spelled as mine is, Loreli).

That shopping list would be great. Thanks so much. I'll be sure and PM you when I get my dates (which seems like forever from now).

I'm sorry to hear that you are so sore. Wowsers...I hope you feel better soon. Just know that it is worth it, you'll forget about the pain in no time I'm sure!

Hey thatgirl! I was glad to read your post (although not glad you are feeling bad). I am on day 2 now and I am much more sore today. The gas pains have me kind of freaked out b/c it's in my left shoulder. I keep thinking heart attack! But I tried to walk it off. It got the gas out of my shoulder, but now I feel like I have a major stitch in my side! UUGGGHH. Oh well, I just keep hoping every day I feel better. My incision sites are getting kind of sore as well. SO YOU ARE NOT ALONE !!!!! Tomorrow is another day. We'll get through it !!!!

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
