I understand why people go to Mexico now.

The insurance run-around that I am getting is unbelievable. I have only two surgeons that are covered by my insurance in my state to choose from. With one, I would be banded in the summer at the earliest. The other costs around $18,000, which I would be paying half of, or so the nurse manager at my insurance says. I am very tempted to go to Mexico, pay roughly the same amount, and get a very experienced surgeon.:)

I would do that if I were you. It sounds like the insurance in your case is turning into a burden rather than a help. And just for your info, my surgeon charges $9950 which is not much more than Mexico. He's in Denver. Good luck.

I just had my surgery done by Dr. Ortiz in Mexico and it was an amazing expierence. I could afforded to do it in the US but after researching it he was my best choice. He has done thousands of lap bands. I just had the surgery 2 days ago and I'm so glad I went to him. His staff and facility were wonderful. He charged $8500 and I was very pleased with everything!!:)

I was just banded 9 days ago by Dr. Kirshenbaum in Denver, CO. You will not find a nicer man and a nicer staff! He calls you whenever you have a question, his staff is quick to answer any questions. I would suggest him highly if your insurance doesn't work out for you.

I would go with another surgeon and have the surgery when you want to. That is my opinion. Just make sure you can find an aftercare doctor. Call the one in your area and ask them if they would take a patient who has been banded by another doctor before you make the decision for sure.

I have decided to go with a surgeon in Memphis, TN that is covered by my insurance. She is considered to be an "expert" in banding, and my out-of-pocket costs would be about what I would have to pay in Mexico. Plus, she is close enough that I could see her when I wanted to, in most cases.

That probably sounds smart in your case. If your spending the same amount, but after care would be much easier. Thanks for the update.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
