Obviously the effects of stress are detrimental to even the healthiest of people, but I am dealing with insurmountable stress lately and the effect it is having on my health (especially) since the surgery. I have found that my appetite is either gone or my brain tortures me with visions of choclate dipped bacon covered cake! I have also noticed that in times of stress I can physically feel my pouch hurt, I am worried I am developing an ulcer...the point of this rant is to ask of anyone knows the risks associated with stress in regards to being so fresh from surgery or even stress relief tips? In the past I have dealt with self injury, drug/alcohol abuse, and of course the go to EATING. Clearl I have overcome all of these negative coping mechanisms. It bubble baths, candles and music just isn't cutting to to tonight...I Ben tried some comfort food (rice pudding) help!?

It just occurred to me that I havn't actually said what I am stressed about, which may help clarify the level of frustration and anger leading to stress so severe I am having physical ailments, eleven months ago I was suffering, literally, from the height of my battle with fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome. I had a seizure in my bathtub while my daughter was (thankfully) asleep in her crib, I was so scared I called the children's aid society to help me take care of my daughter while I went to the emergency room....(it turns out the seizure was caused by the pain meds i had been prescribed for the fibro) long story short it was decided that my daughter was to remain in care until after surgery, well now it's after surgery and they continue to make exscuses to keep from me, everything from them wanting me to take more time to heal to the newest and most horrible accusation that I am addicted to morphine-despite the past 11months of CLEAN drug tests and the fact that I have only been given 40tablets which have lasted me over TWO weeks!! I am just so angry and frustrated and it is taking a toll on my recovery...sorry for the huge sob story...just needing some positivity before I develops an ulcer or something here!!

I would say that to reduce your stress you need to find something positive in your life. From what I read you were focused on the stresses in your life - what you can not have to eat or drink. Instead find something positive to focus on. Getting your daughter back is your goal so think of ways to make that happen. Maybe find a hobby that helps reduce your stress. For me it has been soccer. Since my surgery tht has been my goal. Lose weight so playing soccer is enjoyable again. I understand having chronic pain. I have had RA for about 10 years now and my mom has fibro. Focus on what reduces your pain without pain medication and I think you will see things will start to look up. In my city the MS society puts on a free gentle yoga class for those with chronic pain. Maybe check into that and see if they offer that in your city. It was great on the joints and will relax you. If you are always worried about an ulcer you will eventually get an ulcer so try to calm down and find good things in your life to focus on. I hope that helps. Hang in there!

Thanks, I was in rough shape when I posted that but am doing a LOT better today! I am just biding my time till I can start auquafitness again (2.5 weeks post-op) I am usually an all around happy person but I total collapsed unde the weight of everything happening lately. Thanks for the support :)

Sounds like a lot and I'm so glad you posted here when you needed to vent, your always so real and that's admirable. These are the times that out addictions stare us in the face and say "common, I dare ya!" and it's our spirit and heart that pulls us through. So I'm suggesting to feed your spirit and your heart. Somethings that work for me are yoga, listening to Tony Robbins (sounds cheesy but I can't believe how unpowered I feel after I listen to this guy), have chats with good family and friends, play cards and drink tea, read something naughty or nice and research. I like to research things do that I can better understand situations I'm in or how to make dreams a reality. Your doing amazing, a mother without her child after a surgery like this is life changing...go with it, you are so strong and can only get stronger from here!

      On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
      Soooo I am coming to a realization
      of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

        Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

        Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

        I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

        I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

        BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

      Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
