5 Days Until My Surgery. I Was Going For The Lapband And Switched..

Recommended Posts

So a couple days ago I called my Dr and switched to gastric bypass surgery instead of lap band. I was just feeling doubtful of the lap band and I didn't want to go into this feeling that way. Does anybody have any encouraging words about gastric bypass ?? I have done my research about all surgeries and I feel like this surgery can help me the most.

No... But since I had my band removed 3 weeks ago due to slip and now have to wait 6 months for a revision to bypass, (because my stomach was so jacked up from the band) I can give you discouraging words on the band :). You have to be comfortable with your choice. If you were doubting the band, then it wasn't the right choice for you. Good luck!!!!

You'll lose more weight with the bypass without need for adjustments, the nurse at my surgeons office is having a revision because her Lapband slipped

I think that surgery has to many problems

I thought the only surgery I coulfmd have was the band due tiki medication. Turns out a new surgeon says I can have the bypass...oh happy day! I do not want a surgery that in forced into. Glad I switched surgeons. You'll do fine!

Yea I don't want to go back time and time again for fills. I am excited. I researched and heard I would lose more weight. That made me decision even more. But I am 250. Am I not heavy enough? My Dr said it was ok. It's already set in stone. August 29th :)

I wanted to ask you do you have diabetes or other comorbities and what is your ht or bmi?

I also thought of going with the band at first. My feelings for it were that it was less invasive and could be more easily reversed. On the flip side the wt loss was slower and it didn't have the same effect on my diabetes. Plus I don't think having it removed makes your stomach " normal" again. So I went with the rny. I think it's the best desicion for me.

I am 6 months post bypass. I did a lot of research and felt the bypass gave me the best tools for long term success. Also there are diabetics in my family so I didn't want to take my chances of getting the lap band and then getting diabetes later in life. That would suck! Best of luck.

No I have no health issues. Might sound weird but I don't want to lose too much weight and look ill like some people end up looking. And exactly I want the surgery that seems to workout best long term and gives me the most help. Wednesday is the big day!!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
