Fearing The Funeral More Than The Surgery...

Recommended Posts

I'm wondering if I'm the only one who is fearing the food Funeral more than actually going into surgery? I've been thinking about it...and watching YouTube. You see these video diaries and these people are sobbing uncontrollably...I've been lucky in life not really losing anyone I loved other than my grandparents and two pets...neither of which were closer to me than food...HELP :(

I had a fear of losing food at first but I had to decide what I wanted more food or good health. So I choose to change the way I think . I now look at the surgery as a tool to help me retrain myself and to teach me to control the food and not to have the food control me. I am a week post surgery and am down 14 pounds. There is no hunger what so ever so there for I am

Not having the cravings that I thought I would and food was my best friend. I am great full for this surgery. I wish you the best of luck with all of it.

I had not thought of missing the food. I do love to eat. Hmmm. I just am so so tired and feel so unhealthy. I want so badly to be healthier.

About 2 weeks after getting banded I realized I'd lost my lifelong companion....my 'friend' who was there for every celebration, every heart break, every important event in my life had been marked by food....I had not expected the feeling of loss that I felt!!!!! I wallowed for a few days then moved on but man I was a shock!

I guess this is where the counseling and support groups come in. I know I am going to need them. I am such an emotional eater.

It's kind of weird but what has helped me is going out. We went to ruby Tuesday's today and I just had a side of mashed potatoes but more importantly I got to socialize. I have found that while I do miss food, I was more afraid of missing the social aspect that come along with it.

I miss food too but at the same time I have learned to love the food I am eatting. Just have to learn to adapt and get thru the missing some of the other food issues. Remember though, your doing this for health. And with it comes some sacrifice, but you can get thru this.

I think part of my issue was that my surgery was the week before Christmas, I was on liquids, still not used to it and just felt, well, alone I guess...you do get over it :)

It's like a saying I've heard over and over. "Eat to live, Don't live to eat" Easier said than done eh, but it does make sense.

food has always been a "big" part of my life, (no pun there, lol). I know I"m going to miss it, but then I tell my self, "Self, put on your big girl panties and get over it. You are going to go thru all this for a reason, don't dwell on what you are going to miss, dwell on how much your life is going to change for the better, and how cute you're going to look in those jeans from Old Navy that you didn't have to "special" order from their online plus size site." :)

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
