Why Cant I Stop Bingeing?

Recommended Posts

I'm still pre op, but I'm really trying to lose weight and get control of myself before surgery. Every night I go to bed saying "tomorrow is going to be the day I start" and I barely make it to noon before I binge, and then I feel horrible & guilty all day. I hate when I do this. This is what's gotten me to where I'm at.

Have you talked a therapist yet? When you see him/her you need to let them know what is going on. Whether its just habit, hunger or something deeper (emotional/bored eating) you need to find out. I know you know this...the surgery is a tool. It can't change how we look at food.< /p>

Good Luck

My psych appt is the 23rd. Will they not let me get the surgery if I'm completely honest about the way food haunts me?

You need to be honest...because you want this to work for you. I was a boredom eater when I was younger...and I had to work through that before I was able to get approved for surgery. You need to ask yourself...Why am I eating?

Its so hard, I know. I have my surgery August 15th. Keep in touch...I am always looking for friends who have made the same choice I have to have a better life!

Most likey you won't get approve but with some counseling you will do great and when your ready surgery will be here soon.

I'm still getting all the tests and waiting for insurance approval. I'm also finding it very hard to control my binging. Each trip to McDonalds may be my last, or so I'm behaving. I hope I'm less than a month away. My heart gets tight with worry when I think too much about actual surgery and the first week after.

are you on a pre op diet? If not, I'm sure when the doctor puts you on one you will have to think about it if you really want to surgery.... You will have too see if you have the will, power. my surgery date is august 15th, the doctor put me on this 3 week yeah 3 weeks liquid only diet. so in a way I have to prove to myself that this is what I want now, and that I'm ready.

I don't want to tell you how to live your life but please be careful and please be honest with the psych/therapist. I know we mostly see the psychiatrist as an annoyance in our journey to weight loss but they truly are there for a purpose. Years ago I knew someone who had a gastric bypass. Surgery went fine but 5 or 6 days post-op she went on an eating binge for several days, she'd eat until she threw up then eat again until she threw up. In the end she tore something internally, was rushed to emergency surgery, and passed away. This is an extreme case but you need to be as mentally prepared for the journey ahead as you are physically. You and the therapist need to work through this and get you to a healthy place where you can make the best of this surgery. It isn't a quick fix and it isn't to be taken lightly. I wish you all the best and good luck!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
