Oy, Another Disappointment

Recommended Posts

Just went for my cardiac clearance this morning - I'm 28 years old, I have no issues, ekg is totally normal, I had surgery 3 years ago at almost 30 pounds heavier with no issues, my bp was 109/80, I have been exercising regularly, cardiologist said everything looks fine to him, BUT he wants to do an echocardiogram and stress test, just because of family history. I now have to wait another TWO WEEKS until they could even schedule them.

Have my 3rd and final visit with the NUT this afternoon, have lost almost 9% (only had to do 5%) - everything else was in place and I was planning to be able to submit after today. I'm just irked that he said everything looks just fine, but is still making me do more tests. This is now another few weeks that I will have to wait, plus more co-pays to pay.

Sorry for the rant... I'm just upset = (

did you speak to your surgeon about weather this is necessary or just a want. He may not be comfortable doing the surgery without these tests or he may say that its not required. The biggest thing is the prior hx. With a massive MI and death at such a young age i will almost bet he is wondering if there is a genetic defect. This would not be seen on an EKG. The dangers of surgery could go thru the room if you have a defect as surgery can be taxing on the body. =(. I'm really sorry you have another set back. Hang in there and be positive though i know its hard.

Thanks - did speak with the surgeon's office, and they said even though things look fine, the cardiologist probably just wants to cover all the bases, what with the family history. On the upside, I have EVERYTHING else done, was able to schedule my surgical consult, and the surgeon was not available until August 2nd anyway... so having to do the other cardiac tests isn't holding me up much at all anyway, lol.

Get to schedule at the surgical consult... I'll probably be on a Wednesday... could be as early as the 15th!! If not though, then I'll have to wait until the 29th, because of work =P

See how that worked out! It's almost over and I am excited for you.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
