Consult is basically an opportunity to answer questions and listen to the types of weight loss procedures available. Your height and weight will most likely be taken and your BMI will be calculated. Depending on your insurance, you will find out what they require before surgery and what your actual surgeon requires. It's a stepping stone to a new beginning!

Ok great, thanks its so exciting! They said at the informational meeting on average time from consult to surgery was 2 months! It's crazy to think I could even be thin and healthier let alone not so far off from now!

Well I should know a little more insurance wise at the consult then. Five more months in the grand scheme of things isn't so bad compared to the rest of your new life ahead of you :) I have to wait at least 3 as of right now lol it's exciting but nerve Racking at the same time!

Very nerve-wracking...it's like we get stuck doing allllll this work and then just hope insurance approves it! 3 months is not bad at all! Let me know what they require; I'm interested!

Ok I finally got approved for surgery and here are my requirements:

1. Pulmonologist appt

2. Dietary instruction appt

3. Psych eval

4. Abdomen ultrasound

5. And a pre-surgical education class offered by hospital

After I get my surgery date I will have to have upper GI, chest X-ray, EKG, and blood work up.

And then finally I will have to have a 15 day pre op liquid diet. Lucky I didn't have to have supervised diet :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
