My surgery is tomorrow morning at 9. Don't really know what to expect. I'm getting through the clear liquid diet surprisingly well. My starting weight is 365. Can't believe it got this bad. I am so positive about the future and can't wait to get through this.

You'll do fine. You'll be in some pain when you first wake up don't be shy ask for your pain meds. Don't let the pain get bad ask for them as soon as you start feeling pain again. That's how they control the pain the best. Walk and move as much as possible to get the gas out. I regretted the surgery for the first week. It gets better I promise. Chapstick will be your best friend. Don't rush your recovery I asked to stay in the hospital an extra day. I'm almost 3 weeks out and I still let my husband and kids do almost everything. Smile you're almost there sending prayers and hugs

Thank you both. I'm very excited to start my new life. I have an 18 month old daughter. She is my inspiration. Can't wait until I can keep up with her. Most people I've talked to have told me to make sure I'm up and walking bc the gas is painful. Ill update tomorrow!!

Well I am home!! Feeling pretty great actually! Still trying to get rid of the gas pains. Walking a lot and sipping. Any other suggestions?

walking is the best thing for it Dani. Some say gasX works but, I'm not quite sure about that considering the gas is in your abdomin versus in your stomach. Maybe other folks can have some input with that again.

Glad you're home! congrats!

I noticed it hurts worse when I drink fake sugar. Going to limit that.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
