Pre-Op 2 Wk Liquid Diet.

Recommended Posts

Hi, everyone!

My surgery date is July 11 (so excited!) and Monday I am starting my 2-wk Liquid Protein diet. Anyone who has had to do this, do you have any tips on how to succeed with this? Being addicted to food like I am, I just don't know how I'm going to get through this. Obviously my stomach won't be small yet, so how do I overcome the hunger and emptiness I'll be feeling all day?

I know it's difficult, I try to have my first shake at 11 my second at 3 and my dinner at 6 because I am not hungry in the morning. You need to found a shake you really like I prefer the premier brand at costco. Remember try varieties of foods so you don't get bored GOOD LUCK

The first day was my worst day. I had a headache 2 times so far. But i rearranged the order of my food. For example, I can have a baked potatoe with dinner, but I eat it with lunch to fill me up.

My surgery is July 11 too!!!!

I'm on day 4 of Protein Shake liquid diets. First couple of days was ok I survived, yesterday I had a terrible Migraine (didn't take anything for it per surgeons office) and today I'm in a terrible mood! All I want to do is eat something. I thought about pepperoni pizza with extra cheese all stinking day today! I hate being a food addict! I can't wait for that to get better!!!!

Elvislover: Don't you give up girl! I can imagine how hard it is. I've done shake diets before with no results. But think...you know this is going to pay off once and for all!

Well, this is my 2nd day on my pre-op diet. My instructions are to replace two meals with a high Protein shake and then have one low carb, high Protein meal. I decided that on the days that I work (I work overnights 6p-6a), I will have a shake for Breakfast, my meal for lunch and then my 2nd shake later that night/early morning. When I'm at home with the hubby and baby, I will have both my shakes for bfast and lunch and then have my dinner with them. So far it hasn't been too bad. Being here at work is the hardest because we tend to have a lot of "down time", so I'm kinda just sitting here thiniking about how much I want to EAT, EAT, EAT! Tomorrow will be my first day at home on the diet and I think it will be easier since I'll be so busy with the baby all day. Anyway, for my meals, I'm just having boneless/skinless chicken breast and some veggies. Three days prior to surgery I will just have Clear liquids. The doc says I can do that 1 day prior, but I'm going to go ahead and do it for three days. I'm so scared my liver won't be small enough. I'd hate to get refused because my liver's too fat for fat surgery!! LoL

Anyway, thanks for all the replies. I wish you all continued success on your pre-op diets and hoping our cravings for the "bad stuff" will die down after a few days! I want TACOS and PIZZA!! No, no, no!! I can do this! :D

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
