Finally the wait came to an end of June 7th. I am now 3 days post op. Came home yesterday. For some idiotic reason I thought I would not have post op pain. Lol!! I'm an RN. I know better. The pain was immense for the first 2 days in the hospital. I'm not really sure the morphine worked but the toradol certainly was my best friend:) Now I'm having a hard time taking in all my Protein. Any one else have these issues? Also my doc said cut my daily insin to 15 units. My sugar is hanging in the low 110's. I'm not comfortable taking the insulin. I'm across that I'll become hypoglycemic and be unable to respond because of the pain. Any one else have similar issues?

Yes I had the same issues I was in so much pain 2 days after surgery and when I got home it took me about 2 weeks to be able to get back to my Protein but you should try to stick with it because it will help u loose....congrats on your surgery and welcome to the team hope the pain gets better

Oh I forgot about the insulin yeah mine has been in the low 100's but I'm on a sliding scale so I don't have to take any unless it's over 130

Thanks, Esther! Makes me feel much better about not taking mine. I intend to call the office today and ask. I'm definitely not trying to be "a difficult patient" but i also don't want to unintentionally cause problems.

I'm on day 7. No pain (I think mine hit me all at once in the hospital. Diloted, Percocet and Zofran only took the edge off the pain and nausea the first 2 days) I felt great Friday and yesterday, but today I think I am heading towards dehydration and 15 grams of Protein and 100 Cal was all I could get in yesterday. So far Water is the hardest thing to swallow, and I love water. How are you guys keeping hydrated?

Ocean,

I have Jello and juicy juice that I drink/eat along a with my Protein. I'm looking forward to full liquids so I can have more variety. Maybe then I'll be awake enough to intake all my protein. I'm still so tired. I take a walk. Take a nap. Take a shower. Take a nap. My pain is better and better each day. I hope by Day 7 I can get out and take long walks:) I'm not used to this much sleep!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
