Newbie Makes This Process More Real!

Recommended Posts

Hi Nita here, I have been working on getting this surgery for a little over a year. Last year i had everything done getting ready to make appointment with surgeon and.........my insurance changed and the new insurance did not pay for bypass. I was so devastated. I have type 2 diabetes and high blood pressures. Being over weight doesn't help but i have both very heavy in my family on both sides. All I could think about was the years that the insurance was denying me years of my life with con't diabetes and struggled weight loss.

Now we have insurance that does pay for the bypass and I am so excited to say that my next step is to meet with the surgeon.

Wow, I know the feeling of going part way through the process and then to be turned down. Happened to me 10 years ago. Ins denied, said not high enough bmi and no co morbids. I was about 260 back then, so when I got job that the ins paid, I started my program 6 days after ins kicked in. Best of luck, you have been waiting a long time. I am 5 days post op, and feel pretty good. It will be hard work, but I am ready

Welcome & yes we have a lot of people on this group. All kinds of people in different weight stage. Some waiting others had the surgery. Some deny, and trying again. One thing about this group we are very active, and if you say "My foot hurts" someone will reply in less then 1 hour. We support each other because remember this surgery is forever, and if you never cheat you will be a success.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
