South Beach Diet Bandsters???

Recommended Posts

All right my fellow South Beachers…There has not been any updates...where is everyone? Hopefully everyone is doing good and is on track!!!

My Dr’s appointment on Thursday went great. I found out that I am not taking in enough calories. My Dr would like me to have an average of 1200 a day. Yesterday I cheated and ate some cheese and toppings off of a slice of pizza, with this I barely made 1200. I have to find a way to eat more. (Wow I never thought I would ever say that.)

I have noticed that my concentration is way off lately though. I am having a problem with my attention span. I have also noticed that my temper has a shorter fuse, too. I am sure this will go back to normal once I am getting the correct intake of nutrients. I am going to go see a Dr about my anxiety, though. Since just before the surgery, it has gotten way worse.

I am going to start a LBT journal with my daily menus. Everyone will be welcome to take a look at it once I get it started.

Till later…:biggrin1:

:)I am doing fine with my South Beach Diet. I have a cold and haven't been on the computer much. I stayed in bed most of yesterday. I would like to read your journal and see how you are managing to stay under 1200 calories. I don't have that problem. I need to eat less calories. I need to get a food scale and measure my portions. I am sure I would lose better if I knew what the correct portion size was. Is that how you know how many ounces of meat you're eating, when you say 3 oz of chicken, etc?

Please make a link to your journal, since you said you didn't mind us reading it. I am sure it will help me. thank you!:)

Denise, I am sorry to hear that you are not feeling 100%. I hope that you get better soon. I use my food scale, measuring cups and spoons religiously. I try to make my breakfast and lunch the night before when I know I am not going to have time.

just started back Sunday, once I'm on, it's easy, but when I go off it's so hard to get myself motivated to start again. I have been fighting the same 3# for a month now and it's gotta stop. Since starting back I feel better, so now it's up to me to keep it going. I only have to lose 1# and I'll be in onderland. I haven't been there in over 16 yrs. I think we need to start some kind of challenge for all of us South Beachers. Maybe it will get us motivated. So how about some ideas.

Congrats!!! I'd like to check in daily and post what we ate, drank, exercise, etc

That really helps me and makes all the difference, being accountable.

Would you like to do that?

Oh, I also lost 2 more pounds!!!!:clap2:

Well I just got up ( I work third) and when I got on the scale, drum roll please, I lost a pound so that means that I finally am in onderland. I actually felt myself tear up. corny I know but I did.

Good job on the 2# loss, you are doing really good BGB!!!

I like the idea of checking in everyday with what we eat. drink and exercise. Maybe that will get me motivated to exercise. So here goes with what I have planned for today,

8 oz skim milk with expresso added

3 oz chicken

1 c. vegis

3 oz chicken

egg

canadian bacon

cantaloupe

13 almonds

I always wonder if I should use skim milk or 1%. Skim milk does have more carbs.

Today I had one can low carb slim fast for Breakfast

lunch was a South Beach chicken and broccoli frozen meal

dinner was chicken fajita with no tortilla about 1 cup

I don't know how many calories that was! I drank 64 oz of Water but didn't go to the gym. I will go tomorrow for sure. I had to work today and I am not good about going after work. I like to go first thing in the morning.

Hey Denise, I use Fitday.com to calculate my calories, it's free and easy.

Last night at work they posted a questionair about getting a fitness center on site, they were wanting to know how many people would actually use it. I hope it gets the go ahead, because I know I would use it.

I ususally go to sparkpeople to count calories. I will have to check out fit day. A lot of people have been recommending them to me.

What kind of fitness center are they talking about?

Cutting down on carbs really helps to curb the sugar cravings. I notice if I eat carbs, I start craving sugar right away. Sometimes I really miss my Kashi Crunch Cereal, which is a high Fiber cereal. I notice if I eat it for breakfast, I am craving sugar in the afternoon.

I am following South Beach to the letter and haven't lost an ounce. If fact, I gained 2 lbs. I am in what they refer to as Bandster Hell.

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
