I am having trouble finding a doctor for aftercare in Houston. I was banded by my doctor under a different insurance and now he does not take my current insurance and self pay for adjustments under fluro are $750 dollars a pop. I called my insurance company for a listing of bariatric surgeons and have called five doctor's offices with no luck. They will not see me for adjustments even with insurance. They will not accept patient's who were banded by other doctors. So now, I'm stuck with a band that is doing nothing for me and doctors who refuse to see me. One doctor stated he would do adjustments, but I would have to pay for them. What's the point in having insurance then? Any suggestions?

geesh??? I don't know what to tell you. I know Houston has some good docs, but I they must be so busy, they can turn away patients.

I guess I would start by going through my online provider directory from my insurance and just start calling surgeons... (note, my doc is NOT listed as a Bariatric) he is listed under General Surgery in my directory..... surely you will find one...

GOOD LUCK

Unfortunately that's the case more and more. I can think of two things. One would be to post your question in the Texas forum. More people overall will see it here, but frequently people will also review the posts in just one or two forums, and ignore "general". Might give it a try...? Two would be - I hear a lot of people mentioning "fill center USA"...or maybe it's "centers". Or something like that. I'm *thinking* they mention it in the context of aftercare. Maybe search for it here or on Google and see what you can find.

Hi, I think these Dr's are really being jerks! You can't tell me that everyone that is banded has to get fills from the same place they were banded. I'm sure there are people that have moved across country and are they expected to travel back to their original surgeon!?!? I also ran into this situation here in WI., I am not banded yet but I was all ready + cleared to go with a surgeon in Green Bay but could not come up with the $$$. So I have been looking into going out to Dr. Kirshenbaum in Denver, he is $8,000 less, but when I asked about follow up care with the dr. in Green Bay they wouldn't take me as a patiant until 1 year after being banded. I think this is a bunch of crap! and this was with me paying out of pocket because my ins. has it excluded. Any how I was told to check into finding out if there were any Radioligist that would do it?!?! Good Luck, Sunnysea:)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
