New Job. What to do?

Recommended Posts

I have been at this new job for one month and its attempt to hire. I will be done with my 6 month ins requirement on October 15th. I will be out of my 90 probationary period in mid December. If I get offered the position I would be on another 2 months probation and on top of that won't be eligible for fmla till sept. of next year! I am so torn. I've been waiting for this for so long and I seriously can't wait till Sept! But will insurance even allow me to wait that long?! Or my surgeon for that matter?? Anyone else in a similar situation? I could use some wise words of wisdom!

You have to wait until you can get covered by FMLA. That protects your employment.

Let them know in advance that you will need time off for private reasons. Many people do this, it shouldn't be a problem.

In most states an employer can't fire you for a health related leave. I would find out what is and is not allowed in your state. Once you are approved for surgery, you usually have a year to complete it without having to run the gauntlet with the insurance company again. Only you can determine what your financial and work situation is and see the bigger picture of what is the best path for you. I am a firm believer in "what is meant to be is what happens". That doesn't mean sitting being passive, but if there is a big road block in my path, I look for why it might be good to have a delay or to change paths. Good luck to you, I'm sure you will make the right decisions for you and your health!

Thank you all so much for your input! I too believe in if its going to happen it will. I'm probably the most impatient person in the world and I feel like this is Gods ultimate test of me leaning on Him instead of trying to figure everything out on my own

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
