Scared to do scared not too!

Recommended Posts

Hi all I was due to be sleeved 29/11 but they have bought it forward till 5/11. I have a little boy 2.5 and he is the main reason I am doing this other than my health. I am 40 31/10 and I know u have to do something.. I have some great support around me but my some of my closest relatives are trying to change my mind. They are worried about the operation the recovery being bad and that i am being drastic and should lose weight the old fashioned way exercise and good food. I have always been larger and really only got close to a reasonable weight 6 years ago weighing 90kg first time in 15 years under 100kg I now weigh 141kg with a BMI of 50, My love of food scares me. I realise not doing this I'm not going to be around to see my son grow up but giving up an addition so strong frightens me that I'll regret it and it's permanent. Please tell me if anyone else has had these fears and have been sleeved and I'd love to hear your thoughts. Sorry for a long story.

Who doesn't love food???? I know I love it. Isn't that how we all got to the place in our lives that we considered weight loss surgery?

You have to be ready mentally. Have you had a psychological consult? My insurance company required it. A few therapy sessions might help with your anxiety about the surgery and help deal with the food addiction.

My BMI was 41, I had no health issued except I felt much older than I am, always tired and lots of painful joints. I had no energy, very sluggish. I was also totally dusgusted with myself every time I looked in the mirror.

Once I had made up my mind after a year of considering it, I was ready. The recovery wasn't bad. I stayed one night in the hospital. I had fabulous nurses who were right on time with my pain and nausea medication. My surgery was 7 am and that night I was walking the halls of the hospital. I only took pain meds at home for maybe 2 or 3 days. The first couple of days are the worst. I walked every day to aid the recovery process. I was back to work in 2 weeks.

I am 9 weeks out from surgery and have lost 33lbs and I have never once regretted my decision...except that I didn't do it sooner. I can eat anything I want only much, much less. It is a learning process and you have to put in the work. The first couple of weeks were the hardest with only eating liquids and pureed food....but like I said, I was ready and I followed my doctor's plan as instructed.

I have not found any food I can not tolerate....which is good and bad at the same time. I do not feel deprived. I eat the same dinner as my family, just less. I go to restaurants with friends, just eat less and bring home the leftovers for another meal.

Please do not do it until you are ready.......get counseling, make sure you are ready to make the commitment it requires. But, when you are ready I believe you will be happy with the results.

Good luck!

You just described 99% of the folks that have gone through the surgery. Fear is normal and part of this journey. When I first told my family, my mom and sister said the same thing to me... why can't you do it on your own. Lord knows I've been trying to do it on my own for many years now. It's not like I wanted to be morbidly obese. I explained my reasoning and showed them studies that tell us it's nearly impossible to successfully lose AND and maintain. In the end they came around. It is perfectly normal to be scared about this as it is a major change. My first few days of the pre-op diet, I cried on the way home from work every day. However, success breeds success, and once I saw the scale moving the right way it all just clicked. Yes, the recovery is a bit tough for the first few days. However, if you stick to the plan you'll be good as new in no time. I can honestly say this is the best decision I've ever made (outside of asking my wife to marry me...). Best of luck in whatever you choose; just remember it is your journey!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
