I have a question. And I'm NOT judging!

When you drink Water afterwards to flush it out how does it help?

Forgive me' date=' this is a serious question.[/quote']

Thanks Laura. The same question crossed my mind. If I drink after eating I feel everything is coming out. It is not comfortable at all and I am serious too.

Forgive me' date=' this is a serious question.[/quote'] Honestly our digestive system does not work this way. The calories are absorbed mostly in the intestines. Drinking a bunch of water won't do anything to prevent this.

LipstickLady, first off love the thread and your profile pict. Second, although you ...cheat, what do you normally eat to get the numbers you have.

I really don't consider Coke Zero "cheating" because it has no calories and it's a liquid. I do realize it's a terrible concoction of chemicals, the acid in it is bad for me, the artificial sweeteners can make me crave more carbs and the carbonation fills me up too much, but as far as a bad choice numerically, it's not.

The fish sticks. maybe? I bought reduced fat, whole fillet and ate 1/2 a serving size for less than 200 calories. They were actually a good choice as far as Protein is concerned and best of all, something different. Not justifying, just clarifying. :D

I do "cheat" occasionally, usually by sneaking a mini kit kat from the kids' bags of deliciousness or a few chips from the bag but overall, I stick to high protein, low carb, and I don't worry too much about fat -- that just sort of follows. I am generally under 800 calories and while I am not quite meeting my protein goals yet, I am getting better.

I've been in a stall for almost a month, staying between 192 and 188, so I don't know how good I'm doing as far as weight loss, but that said, I am doing better than I ever have as far as aggravation. My pants are getting looser despite the non-budging number, I am exercising more than ever and I am not freaking out by the scale even though I (bad girl!!!) weigh every day.

If I stayed where I am forever, I am in a much happier place in loose size 14s and large tops over where I was in tight 20s and 2x tops. I would like to lose 30-40 more and I know I will get there eventually, but if I don't, I am healthy, I am active and I just did a 5k mud run complete with huge obstacles to haul my chubby ass up and over and never got winded.

Oh gosh...you didn't ask for all that, did you? HA!

What do I eat? Usually an egg and 2 pieces of bacon or a piece of turkey sausage in the am. $2 worth of salad fixings off the grocery salad bar for lunch (my NUT had the best advice, she said, don't get salad, you will get too full, get the toppings only and you get the tastes you want and some protein, too!), and lean meat for dinner. I snack on beef Jerky, OH YEAH bars, and some protein chips I got at bariatric direct. My diet is boring, but good enough for now.

If you want $20 off your first order from bariatric direct you can follow this link: https://www.bariatricchoice.com/rewardsref/index/refer/id/113387/

I got some awesome stuff in the mail last week. The chips are like pop chips but with lots of protein and they solve my salty/crunchy need.

I bought a can of whipped cream and ate it in the car in the grocery store parking lot. Well, luckily only four or five mouthfuls and I felt like I was going to burst!

I also got a pumpkin shake last week. The sugar hit me after I drank a few hits through a straw so I quit and threw it away... And mourned the unbeaten amount for most of the rest of the afternoon.

Stupid PMS sweets cravings!

I'm really lucky that sugar will make me dump. I learned the hard way after an oatmeal cranberry cookie last month. Ugh!!

I think it's a mind thing. We are told not to drink for 30 minutes (sometimes more) after a meal because it pushes the food through and we can't really absorb anything. My dumb process was, "crap! I have to get this out of my stomach!" So I drank the Water. Not healthy, not smart, but pulling these skeletons out so they will die in the light is the point right? ;o)

Wondering if this is a serious thread of not but here goes:

I drink a lot of alcohol in one sitting.

I don't exercise (my skin looks pretty okay)

I am beginning to feel my bulimia rear it's ugly head again and consume my life.

I'm scared to confess this to my doctor and get actual help so I pretend like everything is okay when it's not

Jujubee -- PLEASE talk to someone IRL. There is NO SHAME in reaching out for help. Seriously, your doctor's office will have resources because you are no alone in your struggle. Many people struggle intensely after WLS and real help is out there. Please.

I'll have a beer or two about once a month. I know.......I'm a bad bad boy........

Also, I may have a couple of tortilla chips/salsa WITH my 2nd beer, if I have a 2nd one. By the 2nd one, I'm already feeling numb so the food with the liquid doesn't bother me and doesn't hurt.

Otherwise, I stick pretty tight to what I'm supposed to do. But I can't behave ALL the time. Misbehaving every once in a while makes it easier to behave the other 98% of the time. :)

Right after I had my baby 3 months ago I would wake up and eat "lactation cookies" probably 6 in the course of the night bc I was waking up every 2 hours to feed her. I tried to downplay it to myself cuz they were "lactation" but really it was still butter sugar and flour with some lactation supplement in there lol. Also I lived off Quaker chewy granola bars at one point I was eating about 6 a day too.

I can't even begin to bring out my skeletons from when I was pregnant lol. That is a whole diff story.

Hey, I just read about Protein Cookies from Chris and Heidi Powell's blog. They're made using Protein Powder, and they look like an iced sugar cookie. I wonder if you could mix your lactation herbs into those Cookies for a little Protein, too. No judgement or criticism -- just really thinking out loud since the lactation cookies are so helpful but sleeved stomach capacities are so limited.

@LipstickLady -- I don't think you're supposed to take this as a list of suggestions. :)

The absorption process happens in our intestines, which is why the VSG is not malabsorptive in the way that RNY is -- because no one messes with our intestines. The thing with the Water (as explained by my NUT) is that when we eat our Protein first and avoid water, it allows the body to feel the fullness and to improve digestion instead of having food floating around in watery stomach acid. With water on board, you don't feel the fullness of the dense Protein, this triggering you to eat more.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
